We had the good fortune of connecting with Jace, Trey Baxter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jace, Trey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Jace: I’ve always been pretty comfortable with risk, sort of impulsive, like deciding at 20 I wanted to be a cowboy and moving to Montana to work on a cattle ranch, or going out for special forces and joining the army on a whim.
When I do think about risk and weighing my options before deciding whether or not to do some thing, I think about what is the worst possible outcome and what is the most likely outcome. The closer together those two things are on a scale, the more likely that I’ll choose not to go through with it, although I have pushed the boundaries on that before. It all depends on how bad I want my most desired outcome.
Trey: I don’t think you can obtain great things without risk. Sometimes even when you can’t see the possible outcomes or the worst outcomes, you have to jump and see what happens. I think I’ve gone with faith when I decide to jump. I’ve psyched myself out before and decided to do nothing and guess what that got me.. Nada.. And through those moments I’ve decided to jump, and the outcomes became big mistakes or failures, great things still came through. From booking Guess Campaigns, and progressing in the industry to meeting my wife on set of a music video. Risk is necessary to grow.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Jace: I didn’t set out to be a photographer, it’s some thing that just sort of happened to me. At first my wife was the photographer and she made me learn Photoshop so I could help her. After that I just got obsessed and learned as much as I possibly could. I’m still doing that to today. I don’t want photography To become my job though, that’s the last thing I want. What I do want is the shoot cool stuff, do great things, and Inspire my kids to pursue their passion. I think this brand gives me the opportunity to do that.
Trey: Being in the modeling and acting industry for 10 years, I can credit my success to the support of my family and friends, plenty of mistakes made, and being humble and grateful for the work I was fortunate to book, and Gods Grace. It was definitely not easy. constant persistence, perseverance, and patience. One lesson I’ve learned in the pursuit of a dream, was to put all your trust or faith into the people that say they will help you. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. Don’t bother them with any more of your time, walk away and figure out another way. Because there is one.
We live in the best country in the world. If you live here and want to make something happen for your self, you can do it. Work hard, be persistent, grow, learn from your mistakes and try to live in the moment from time to time, because working on a dream can take you away.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I was going to take anyone out somewhere, we’d probably go to historic downtown McKinney. There’s some cool shopping good food and I like it down there. What we would actually do though is probably invite people over to my place shoot guns play games and have a good time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We feel extremely fortunate to live in this country and to have the abilities that God gave us.
