We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivory Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ivory, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to run your own race and comparison is the thief of joy. I spent many nights looking at other candle makers overnight success or what I thought were brilliant ideas, and one day I realized that I was sabotaging my own creativity and snuffing out my own success by paying more attention to others success instead of celebrating my own. As an entrepreneur I think its hard when your journey looks a little different than others, but I have learned that this is the most important lesson that I could have ever learned early in my journey. To celebrate every twist and turn that comes, to not compare yourself or your business to others. Your authenticity is what makes your business stand out in a market that may have many offerings.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In search of a creative outlet that would encompass my purpose and passion for uplifting, encouraging others to be their absolute best I started IvoryLuxe Candle Co. in 2020.

Creating this business has been such a blessing to me in that I get the opportunity to do all the things I dreamed. I have always wanted to have an impact on my community through giving, as well as uplift those around me. I believe what makes my business unique is the formula that I have created for my scents to last long in an environment. I have also created a community where women connect with one another and share how they choose to relax and use our products. I include encouragement and uplifting cards in every package shipped as well as take time to ensure the packaging experience upon receipt is that of a gift being received. I want my customers to feel uniquely special and good when receiving their order.

In the future it is my goal to create a stronger nurturing community for women as well as include a social good component to our business model that gives back to my local community in Little Elm/Frisco area.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love hanging out at the Star in Frisco or taking my friends to Downtown dallas roof top bars and a nice dinner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you to The Next Chapter Curated by Marquita Deloach for supporting my small business in so many ways I am eternally thankful. I listen to podcast like The Product Boss, Launch your subscription Box are main tools I use consistently to grow my business.
