Meet Hunter Hungerford | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hunter Hungerford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hunter, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk is a huge part of life and can be looked at as something to avoid for most people. For a long time I avoided risk and realized that it should be something I invite into my life, and not run away from. Risk often leads to answered questions and new opportunities. If you never take a risk you will never know what could be available for you on the other side. You could find yourself like me and be left pondering on the thought of “what could’ve been”. My career started solely off of risk. I originally wanted to go to school and start a career that sounded the best, and didn’t really suit me. It wasn’t until almost two years of uncertainty that I realized Art School was the best route for me to express myself. I wasn’t too familiar in the arts but had a huge passion for it growing up. I didn’t have much experience in this field, so there was a lot of self doubt in the beginning. I learned so many lessons along the way that made the risk of putting myself out there and finding a place in the art world so worth it. My greatest love of art is design and my greatest outlet was and still is my job today. If I never would have taken the risk of signing up for that first design class I would’ve never known the passion, drive, and motivation I had deep down inside me. Im still taking new risks every day even in my personal life through traveling. Im going to new states, listening to live music, meeting new friends, and being inspired by the culture and art in every new place I visit. Once you get over the hill of fear of taking a risk, the task or experience becomes so small and somewhat familiar that you just want to keep taking healthy risks that’ll help you grow as an individual.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a major love for interior and graphic design. I use music and nature as big inspirations for my creativity, because I find it brings to most peace. It was not easy getting where I am today and I’m still not where I want to be, but everything has been worth it. School was my biggest struggle and greatest teacher. You have to prove a lot in the design world and I’ve learned not to compare myself to others because we all bring something different to the table. Everyone has an art they’re passionate about and I just people to see how versatile and accepting mine can be.
I also use dance as a creative outlet and a source to stay busy artistically. shuffling and hula hooping has helped me through creative blocks that I’ve faced in my life and introduced me to a different side of the arts. my love for design and dancing both bounce off of each other when it comes to my personal inspiration. both of these outlets give me the opportunity to express myself and be as creative as i possibly can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love hanging out around Deep Ellum because of all the art, food, and music venues that are available. There are tons of great music gigs at Deep Ellum Art Co. with tons of art displayed inside the venue. The Star in Frisco is also a great spot for food and drinks! I love going to Sushi Marquee with my friends and enjoying the nightlife as well. I also love to hammock by Lewisville Lake and enjoy nature whenever the weather is feeling nice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to my parents, siblings, grandparents, and my old manager who all believed in me, and constantly pushed me to step out my comfort zone. I also want to thank my friends and the edm community for constantly inspiring me.
