We had the good fortune of connecting with Huncho Bri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Huncho, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
My parents were immigrants from Nigeria, and seeing them work so hard and turn nothing into something motivates me when I get discouraged, it’s in me not on me. Even when it feels like you been doing so much with little to no results, you have to just have that mindset that success is your only option and giving up is not a choice. There’s no room to feel sorry for yourself, get it if you want it !
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a recording artist and I love to rap. I’m very excited about the project I have been working on, I have my first mixtape “Playgirl” dropping soon and there’s going to be about 10 songs on it. I started planning this mixtape in 2019 and it took a lot of trial and error for me to finally get it how I envisioned it, because one thing about me, when it comes to my art, I’m a perfectionist.
Definitely was not an easy process, people tend to think rapping is “easy” but it definitely takes time to even master the basics of rap but practice makes perfect, you have to be willing to sacrifice sleep and have plenty of late nights and early mornings perfecting your craft. No excuses. You have to invest in yourself and believe in yourself even when you feel like nobody cares or nobody will listen, be your number 1 fan.
I’ve become a lot more self aware in the process and that’s one big lesson I learned in my journey, it all comes down to how you truly view yourself as a person and as a creative. As an artist, we tend to doubt ourselves sometimes and overthink it, and I’ve come to realize that overthinking will only hinder you in the long run. Stop questioning your talents, you got it! Never let your fears stand in the way of your dreams.
The only way for the world to know more about my story and brand is by listening to my music. So many gems dropping so soon. I really feel like this project will give the world a good idea of who HUNCHOBRI really is. Can’t wait !
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Dallas, I love the downtown scene at night. It’s very lively and exciting. I would probably start the night off at this bar called “Ruins” in Deep Ellum, they have some of the best tacos in the city. During the daytime, I would do something chill but still fun like go to the Dallas Art Museum or do a little shopping at Northpark mall.
For brunch or a little Sunday fun day , I would probably go to XOXO dinning room, that’s probably one of the cutest and most feminine restaurant/ lounges you’ll come across in Dallas. Another spot I would go to for Sunday fun day is Clutch bar around Uptown Dallas, I’ve only been there once but it was very exciting and had good vibes and a nice outside scenery .
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my family and friends for always supporting me and giving me that reassurance that my inner creative needs.
