Meet Hayley Smith | DFW Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayley Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hayley, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up with curly hair, I struggled to learn how to take care of my curls. At 14, I finally figured it out, and it made a huge difference in how I viewed myself. This experience sparked a realization: if I faced these challenges, there had to be others who were struggling too.
I wanted to create a space where people could feel understood and supported in their journey with their natural hair. My passion for creativity led me to become a hairstylist aiming to inspire others to embrace their unique beauty. Along with my love for curly hair, I also specialize in lived-in hair color, helping all my clients achieve effortless, natural looks, that embrace their natural beauty no matter the texture.
Ultimately, pursuing an artistic career felt like the perfect way to connect with others, foster self-acceptance, and create a community around shared experiences.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is my personal journey with curly hair and my passion for helping others embrace their uniqueness. I’ve transformed my struggles into a platform where I share tips and celebrate the beauty of curly hair, creating a sense of community around self-acceptance.
Pride and Excitement:
I’m most proud of the connections I’ve built with others who resonate with my story. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see people gain confidence and embrace their curls through my guidance. I’m excited about the potential to expand this community and create even more resources for those on similar journeys.

My path hasn’t been easy. I faced significant setbacks when COVID-19 disrupted my time in cosmetology school. Classes were canceled, and I had to put my dreams on hold. Instead of giving up, I decided to save up money to return to school without accruing student debt. This determination fueled my motivation to learn and grow, ensuring that I could pursue my passion without financial burden.

Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of resilience and the value of authenticity. Embracing my true self and sharing my journey has allowed me to connect with others on a deeper level. I’ve also realized that vulnerability can be a strength; it’s what makes us relatable.

I want the world to know that embracing your natural self is a journey worth taking. My brand is about empowerment, self-love, and community. I hope to inspire others to celebrate their uniqueness and find joy in their own stories, just as I have.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Start the day at my favorite brunch spot, Eggtastic Brunch Cafe. It has a little something for everyone, including the most delicious brunch cocktails! After brunch, we’ll head to the Dallas side to choose from one of these fun activities:
* The Puttery: Enjoy some mini-golf.
* Activate: Dive into interactive games for some friendly competition.
* Fowling: Experience the unique blend of football and bowling.
We’ll return to Fort Worth for dinner at Maria’s Mexican Kitchen, enjoying flavorful dishes to fuel our night. We’ll kick off our nightlife adventures starting at one of my favorite bars, The Local, then head to Pour Decisions soon after. From there, we’ll see where the night takes us!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Theres quite a few people who deserve a shout out in my life. I would love to shout out Delaney Davis and Makaela Etheridge. These two are both in the beauty industry, who have supported me in many ways. Delaney Davis my old manager quickly turned into a great friend and mentor of mine. Makaela who also recommend, she is talented waxer who’s own journey of opening a salon suite. Inspires me to keep going in my own journey of becoming my own business owner. I also can’t thank my family enough, they are my rock. I couldn’t do it without them either.
