We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayden Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hayden, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Like many others, I started my career in the corporate world and similarly to the vast majority of those people; I hated it. Sure, maybe I didn’t at first but over time my mind told me there were bigger things out there for me to accomplish. The comfortability of a steady paycheck, managers laying out every decision you should or shouldn’t make and company benefits that I can take advantage are were nice but there came a point when I wanted to dictate how my future would be laid out. That said, risk played a huge part in my life then and still does now. Risk can be a scary concept when not measured but as an accountant, it is my duty to analyze pros and cons of numerous situations. I took a risk on myself to step out of the corporate world and place future trajectory into my own hands but without that calculated risk I would still be cruising along in my comfort zone. Calculated risk is what allows us to grow as people!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As I mentioned before I came from the corporate world. There I found myself selling rather than serving and that conflicted with my personality so I made a change in my career path.

But there’s more to why I founded Nucleo Financial beyond my adult years. Growing up and even through my college years my family was not in good shape financially but we were very happy as a unit; hi Mom! My parents had me in me in their teenage years so inevitably we had to work hard just to remain in the lower working class. Socioeconomic status never meant too much to me as a kid and labels such as these still do not but somewhere in my 20’s my mindset changed for the better.

Nucleo is the Italian word for “core”. We serve others by building a strong financial foundation through accounting and financial consulting.

I started my company for two main reasons: 1) Provide myself and family financial stability; after all this is is why so many Americans work so hard, right? And 2) Create a medium in which we can give to those in need within our communities. Every year, we carefully select a non-profit organization to receive a portion of our earnings because we love helping others and frankly I have been in a tough situation like everyone else.

Starting and operating a business is not easy but with missions like these it sure makes it worth while. Myself and team do not determine if a client is a good fit based on income which other firms do. The biggest factor in working with someone is there willingness to improve their financial world and we invite any family or small business owner to allow us to serve them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question because it “stumps” me every time! DFW has so much to offer, I didn’t realize this but Dallas is one of the top food destinations in the US so of course good food is on the agenda. I live in North Dallas in wonderful Celina, Tx so I’m going to keep it close to home.

In my opinion, this is the dream itinerary for anyone visiting DFW: 1) Go root on the Texas Rangers in our new stadium. Considering our current performance, it might result in a loss but as a big baseball fan it will still be a blast! 2) Enjoy a great dinner at Rick’s Chophouse in downtown McKinney. Texas is sometimes known for our tasty steaks, right? 3) Sneak in a quick round of golf at any of our top golf courses in North Texas- my personal favorite course is The Bridges (Gunter, Tx). 4) Wrap-up the evening by joining my family at our home, hanging out on the back porch with my wife’s amazing cooking and a cold drink in-hand. Texas hospitality at it’s finest. Or if restaurants are preferred, reserve a seat at Haywire in Frisco, Tx to enjoy a wonderful old-fashioned and American cuisine made from scratch.

Great, now I’m hungry!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am fortunate enough to have the support of a loving family! Most of my credit goes to those under my roof for providing the love and confidence needed for me to succeed. Additionally, I love making new friends and career partners in DFW. Accountants are typically introverted and a little preserved but I aim to flip the industry upside down! My cheesy slogan is this, “I’m a people person that happens to be good with numbers” and my personality to help others aligns with like-minded individuals. I am given numerous opportunities to help clients because of clients and other professionals that are willing to spread my service offerings to those they care about. This kind of trust means a lot to me and is a reinforcement that we’re doing a great job for our clients. I am extremely grateful for those that refer me to their friends, family and mutual clients!
