We had the good fortune of connecting with Harshitha Kota and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harshitha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
[Harshitha] – The thought process behind starting the business was rooted in purpose and passion. I saw a real need within our community for a space where small businesses could shine and culture could be celebrated authentically—that’s how The Little India Fair was born.
For me, it wasn’t just about starting a business; it was about building a platform that gives local entrepreneurs visibility while offering the community a nostalgic, heartfelt experience that reminds us of home.
And the most fulfilling part is that I get to do it with my husband, Ravi – as partners in life and in purpose. Every fair we create reflects our shared vision, love, and commitment to making a meaningful impact together.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Little India Fair, was born from an emotion that every immigrant relates to — the longing for the warmth of home. From family and festivals to food, color, and culture, those pieces of our identity are what we miss most while living away. Through The Little India Fair — an Indian flea market — our goal has been to recreate that feeling and bring people closer to an authentic “home away from home” experience.

What sets us apart is that we don’t just host an event, we create a celebration  for all ages — from kids to youth and adults. Our fairs feature a vibrant mix of vendors, artists, and crafters offering fashion, jewelry, handicrafts, and unique finds. Alongside that, we bring in live music, kids’ activities, Indian delicacies, and an atmosphere full of color, fun, and connection. It’s a place where culture, community, and entrepreneurship meet in the most joyful way.

This journey has also been one of courage and commitment. Building The Little India Fair alongside my husband, Ravi, meant starting small, balancing full-time jobs, and taking bold risks—whether it was investing from our own savings, navigating unpredictable challenges, or earning trust within the community. What kept us moving forward was an unshakable belief in our vision and the overwhelming encouragement of those who showed up, supported, and made this dream their own.

The challenges along the way have taught us resilience, accountability, and the power of creating with integrity. Every fair is crafted with ownership — from vendor selection to the customer experience — because our goal has always been bigger than organizing an event—it’s about crafting an experience that leaves people with memories, connections, and a deep sense of belonging.

At its core, The Little India Fair is more than a marketplace — it’s a story of love, culture, and community. It’s about honoring our heritage, uplifting small businesses, and showing that with vision, perseverance, and hard work, two immigrants can create something truly extraordinary

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d take them on a week-long journey through all my favorite spots in Dallas–Fort Worth. We’d start with brunch at Talia’s Café in Plano, grab Asian food at Tande Thai in The Colony or Frisco Base Camp, and enjoy cozy dinners at places like Barley & Board in Denton or Mister O1 Pizza. Coffee at Escape 360 and Summer Moon would definitely be on the list, too. I’d love to show them the vibrant Clearfork area and the historic Stockyards in Fort Worth, which was our first home and still holds such a special vibe. We’d spend at least one evening watching the sunset at Rockledge Park on Grapevine Lake — it’s truly stunning — and wrap up the week with nightlife at Silo or Stereo Live, ending with a stroll through downtown, because nothing compares to that energy. For me, that mix of food, culture, nature, and nightlife is what makes this area so exciting to share.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
[Harshitha]- From the very beginning, it was my mother who believed in my vision and pushed me to bring it to life. Everything we’ve built today is rooted in her encouragement—she’s been the driving force behind The Little India Fair, and I owe so much of this journey to her unwavering support.
