Meet Harry Razmi | Scientist, Podcast Host & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Harry Razmi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Harry, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balancing work and life has been especially challenging as I pursue two PhD programs while staying active in projects I’m passionate about, like my student-focused podcast.
These days, I often sacrifice parts of my personal life to pursue meaningful impact—whether through research or through my podcast. Though it isn’t always balanced in the traditional sense, I’ve come to define balance not as equal time allocation, but as alignment with my values. For me, that means striving to make a difference in both academia and people’s lives, even if that means short-term imbalance for long-term fulfillment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a clinical researcher working on one of the most urgent medical challenges in the U.S.—early diagnosis of sepsis, the number one hospital killer. This is more than a project to me; it’s a mission. I work closely with ICU patient samples, developing micro-scale technologies that mimic what’s happening inside the human body—bringing complex immune responses onto a chip to better detect and understand diseases at their earliest stages.
What sets my work apart is the integration of engineering with real clinical impact. I’m not just working in a lab—I’m connecting directly with patient needs and using that insight to guide the design of diagnostic tools that could potentially save millions of lives.
Getting to this point wasn’t easy. The path has been filled with late nights, uncertainty, and constant learning. But witnessing suffering up close has given me something stronger than motivation—it’s given me purpose. I’ve learned that real change doesn’t come from comfort zones; it comes from persistence, empathy, and the belief that science can truly serve humanity.
What I want the world to know is this: I’m here not just to do research, but to build solutions, save lives, and inspire others—especially the next generation of students—to dream big and make their own impact.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d start by showing them why I fell in love with Dallas—because it truly has the perfect mix of nature, culture, and Texas charm.
For the first couple of days, we’d stay in Dallas and enjoy some of my favorite places to walk and talk, like White Rock Lake and the Katy Trail. Both are perfect for catching up while enjoying beautiful scenery and vibrant local energy. After our morning walk, we’d head for lunch at one of my go-to BBQ spots—Terry Black’s BBQ or Saltgrass Steak House—because you can’t visit Texas without trying real barbecue!
If they’re into art, I’d take them to the Dallas Museum of Art to explore some creativity and culture. And for the evenings or quiet afternoons, we’d hang out at Wayward Coffee Co. or The Wild Detectives—two of my favorite local coffee shop/bar hybrids. They have a cozy, artistic vibe that’s great for conversations, reading, or even getting a little work done.
Midweek, we’d take a trip to Fort Worth for a classic Texas experience. Twice a day—at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.—you can catch the Longhorn cattle drive through the Fort Worth Stockyards. It’s a unique experience that captures the real spirit of Texas, and it’s something I always recommend to anyone visiting the area.
This mix of nature, food, art, and true Texas culture makes Dallas and the surrounding areas an unforgettable place to explore. Whether you’re here for a day or a week, there’s always something to enjoy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I had to dedicate my shoutout to anything, it would be to the dream of coming to the United States—a vision that guided my path from the very beginning. I always saw the U.S. as the land of opportunity, where I could shape a better future and make a real impact on people’s lives.
That dream took a more meaningful and tangible form when I arrived in Texas, and especially in the city of Dallas. This place has offered me not just education and resources, but a true sense of belonging and opportunity. The support, the people, and the energy of Dallas have played a major role in my journey, and I consider it the heart of the success path I’m now walking.
The U.S. gave me the dream—but Dallas gave me the stage to start turning that dream into reality.
