We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Overton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Love. As a Christian, I believe genuine love towards those God brings in our path, is one of the most important aspects of our ministry.

People’s most basic need is love. And everyone wants to feel loved.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was falsely accused and spent seven years in a maximum security prison for a crime I did not commit. It certainly was not easy, but God carried me through. By the grace of God, I was proven innocent. While I was still inside prison, a ministry was begun, which has now grown into Syndeo Ministries, a prison ministry that touches thousands of women through outreaches, Bible Studies, and a transitional home. Although my story ends in “happy ever after,” the transition back home was not an easy one. That led me to write a book called “From the Inside Out: Healing from the Trauma of Incarceration.” This book helps women lean on God as they overcome the difficulties they face when re-entering the free world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My life is quite different than most, and my friends, and those I hold dear, are part of it. Let me give you an example. Last week we went to Mexico to help a friend who had been deported with just the clothing on her back. She needed a safe place to live. So with the help of some amazing friends, we were able to rent her a home and begin to furnish it. Last night, we spent the evening with a woman who spent 39 years in prison, 20 of them were on death row for a crime she did not commit. For the first time in her life, she has a place of her own. And she was so excited to have sparkling water and a cake for us when we arrived. What a privilege to be a part of this life. The next day, we had lunch with a woman handicapped due to abuse. She is a lovely child of God, and how honored we are to know her. After that we accepted an invitation to a homeless camp filled with a host of grateful and kind people, thankful to receive simple gifts of shampoo and lotion. That’s the life I get to be a part of. And these are the people and places we are blessed to go to.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who deserve credit in my story. I wouldn’t be here today without my family, my church family, and my attorneys, who supported me and worked tirelessly to prove my innocence. But when it comes to Syndeo Ministries, and keeping everything running, our unsung hero is my Operations Manager, Debra Brinker.
