Meet Hannah Callen | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Callen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
To me success in photography is always seeking to be better and to provide the best product for my clients. To attain this goal of providing the best to my clients I continually seek learning opportunities. Photography to me is a never ending quest for the next level photography. From local mentors, to online classes that offer me that next step in learning process, this learning process provides a better product that my clients see with every gallery.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I use photography as my art. I specialize in families, motherhood/maternity, lifestyle newborn, and couples! I provide an extensive client closet and an experience that is authentic and stress-free! My inclusive packaging options provide variety for my clients and I pride myself in fast turn-around service. Through the lens I capture those moments that live on forever on a wall, in an album, and in our minds.
Starting my business was a challenge from the beginning. With the help of other small business owners I was able to put everything together to become Callen Creative Photography. The entire process from forming an LLC, taxes, and even scheduling childcare to be able to schedule sessions was daunting, until other small business owners who had the same questions in the beginning stepped up to help another small business. I learned that there is driving force in small business owners to succeed, but the amazing story is that they want others to succeed also even if they are in the same business. I hope to one day be able to help another small business get off the ground. It has been rewarding building Callen Creative Photography one brick at a time and knowing some of those bricks have names of other small business owners who helped me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, the first thing I would do is go to Downtown Dallas for a day of fun. I would bring my camera to catch the joy in her eyes at experiencing the fun of Dallas. We would to the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens to capture the beauty there. Dinner would be at the Reunion Tower so she could see the Dallas Skyline. Day 2 would be Murrell Park for a day at the beach without the danger of a shark attack LOL. Dinner would be at Nates in Addison for a seafood dinner because it is the closest place I have found that reminds me of South Louisiana. Day 3 would be a trip to the state fair to see Big Tex and eat everything fried and of course it would not be complete without a carnival photoshoot. On the last day we would visit local to my home in Providence Village. We would schedule a Walk-A-Paca experience at TX-Ture Farm, because who cannot look at an alpaca without smiling. We would finish the evening at Fortunata Winery for a glass or three of wine and music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank Stacy Tuma at Benjamin Bunny Boutique for providing me with my first camera and loving support as I grew my business. I would also like to thank April Pinto with April Pinto Photography for mentoring me and guiding me through this journey in the photography business. Without these ladies I would not be where I am today without them.
