We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Papez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haley, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We purchased this business so that I could be more present in our children’s lives as well as to be active members in our community. I have been a school psychologist for 19 years and I would say that other people’s children got the best part of me every day. So now that I have a business in our town of residence supporting the efforts of our hometown youth, I am able to serve my family and my community in a way that glorifies The Lord.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We have appreciated antiques and the stories behind the pieces for decades. We have been in the antique business since July, 2022 after having left the education industry. What sets our store apart from others is the wide variety of selection of statement pieces and the way in which we showcase the items so that our guests can envision the piece in their home.

We also have handmade home goods  and crafts from local artisans as well as farmhouse finds that pair nicely with our antique and vintage pieces.

We provide an experience for our guests to participate in as they take in the sights and reminisce with us regarding the pieces from days gone by.

God has blessed us with this business and any challenges we have experienced, we have been able to overcome them with His grace and provision.

What we would like for the world to know, is that it is never too late to try something new and trust God with the details. If He puts a desire in your heart, He will make a way for it to happen!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, for starters, I would recommend staying at the Reel Inn and Lodge at Lake Fork. They have uniquely styled rooms with such a welcoming staff. They are located right by the nationally recognized Lake Fork which is a beautiful lake to fish and take the boat out on. I would take my friend to town and enjoy a coffee from the Speakeasy and later on that night enjoy a beverage and live music upstairs at The Tattler. We would enjoy eating at the Taco Dive in Winnsboro as well as shopping at the the local stores. Later in the week, we would enjoy shopping at additional stores on Highway 80 in Mineola and be sure to enjoy a fried pie at the Mercantile store. To finish out the week, we would shop the antique stores in Gladewater, which is the Antique Capital of East Texas! While we are there, we would be sure to stop off and see Mrs. Karla at the Byrd’s Nest. My friend would surely leave having been grateful to have spent some time in The Nest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Cory. He worked hard to support my desire to have an antique store and knew how much my heart longed to serve my community to a greater capacity. Together with the support of his mother, he made my dream come true!
