We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haley, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I began my business based on a need I saw in my community. During my time in Veterinary medicine I saw so many people go through heartbreak trying to save their pets, many of these cases could have been avoided if they had more accessible knowledge to training. When I got my first dog, I was told I would never be able to handle him and that I should re-home him. I refused to believe that was true, and worked to make our relationship better so that we could live a productive life together. After seeing the life we were able to live together I knew I had to do everything I could to give other people this life as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think my biggest difference from other trainers is that my focus is on making a livable dog for that family. I base my programs solely on the owners ideal life style, as long as it is fair to the individual dog, and work from there. I think my success and progress can greatly be attributed to the fact that I have never stopped learning and adapting my training style. This helps me approach issues in variety of ways, depending on what best suits each owner and their pet. The biggest lesson I have learned is that we can be imperfect and still give back to society and be helpful to others. This means that it is okay to continuously grown, change, and adapt. Changing your beliefs when you find new information is part of human nature and is something that should be widely accepted.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places to visit is the Dallas arboretum, especially when they have the holiday decorations set up. The arboretum is absolutely stunning, just keep in mind it is not dog friendly. I enjoy going to Ida Claire for breakfast on the weekends. For a night out I love going to The Truck Yard as it’s very low key and dog friendly!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give recognition and thanks to my online community. Over the past year they have supported and encouraged me to take every single opportunity that comes my way. Without them I would not have gotten this far this quickly, I will never be able to thank them enough for all that they do. Thank you BOGC, you ladies are the best.
