We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Greg, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance is a simple concept, but a tricky execution. I’ve learned that balance doesn’t necessarily mean the amount of time spent, but rather the quality of the time. For example, my kids, especially when they were younger, needed more time together, and as they’ve aged, they need less.

I have learned and work to spend my time intentionally. Its not easy, its always a battle with all of the calls and distractions of modern living, but I try.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Proletas High Protein Ice Cream Bars is a concept that combines two of my favorite things: happy and healthy. Happy, because it is ice cream on a stick, and healthy, because it is made to be a protein bar. They taste great and they are good for you. That’s what sets us apart from most other ice cream bars, which can be quite delectable, but nowhere near good for your body.

We are still pretty young in our business journey; this is only the beginning of year six. While I would like for it to have gone a bit faster, I also have to realize that this is a process, and that as I grow, the business will as well.

It has not been easy; running this business takes a significant portion of my free time to maintain. It is still in side hustle status, and i realize that the more time I put into it, the better the results will be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a sucker for a good steak, and one of my go-to spots is Beyond the Butcher in the Dallas Farmer’s Market. They sell fresh and delicious cuts of meat in their butcher shop next door to their grill. I love the ribeye with the grilled brussel sprouts.

For a cold drink and some old school country music, Adairs in Deep Ellum on Wednesday nights is the spot. Red has been strumming his guitar and singing forever, and this dive bar is a cool spot. Plus the burgers are great.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This ShoutOut goes to Crossfit Heat, a little gym in Downtown Dallas! Its where my fitness journey took me, and where i found a great community of coaches and athletes who care. Its the spot where I first launched Proletas, and where I became involved with The Dallas Five.

It is currently owned by Gil Flores, Joe and Taylor Lopez, and they have been there since the start of my story at Heat.
