We had the good fortune of connecting with Grecia Alfaro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grecia, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to have the courage to create something that is authentically me and lean into the unknown. I’ve learned that fear will have its place in the journey, and all I can do is embrace it and use my intuition and faith to lead the way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Before I even knew what my business would be, I envisioned what I wished for it to be. I wanted to tie in my creativity, unique quality product/s, create low waste for our environment, and bring happiness to customers. Deciding to open a candle business was natural, but nonetheless, a difficult idea to pindown. I allowed for my creativity to flow and opened myself to new ideas, and decided to create unique soy candles. I started to research, test, and learn all about opening up a business and candle-making, it’s been one of the most rewarding and aligned decisions I’ve ever made.

I create soy wax candles, but not the typical candle you would imagine. The candles are decorated with dried flowers, herbs, and crystals. I choose each herb, flower, and crystal with the intention to bring beauty, peace, and balance into the client’s home. I take vintage and thrifted items, repurpose and create beautiful pieces of candle art. Anything from teacups, mugs, onion soup bowls, mini pitchers, and so much more. I love that the containers can be reused in people’s homes after they are done burning the candles. My unique take on candle-making sets me apart from the typical candles you see in big box stores. Many consumers have told me, they recognize some of the containers from their childhood, (their grandma or parents had the exact vintage containers), and it brings them happiness and nostalgia. The fact that I can bring a smile to people’s faces and also help with creating less waste in our landfills brings a sense of excitement and gratitude that I cannot put into words. Since opening, I’ve added bath salts, wax melts, and also carry a regular line of glass jar candles.

My vision for the brand is to bring a sense of groundedness, connection, and happiness to anyone who buys a candle. Candles are everyday items in many homes, and choosing to buy a candle in an upcycled container, not only brings uniqueness to people’s homes, but it’s an opportunity to do a small act of sustainability.

As I continue, I learn, add and improve. It’s all part of the process. I am open to growth, embrace the mistakes, and don’t shy away from the unknown. I am a student of life, and I humbly look forward for what’s to come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So much to do!

But I would love to have them visit White Rock Lake in East Dallas is definitely a must, it has tons of food around the area, it’s beautiful and relaxing. I also love Bishop Arts for its food and vibe, then the Dallas Art Museum, of course consequently visit Klyde Warren Park to enjoy Downtown and the food trucks!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my family and partner. Since the beginning, my partner, Marcos, encourages me to follow my passions, is always listens to all of my ideas, and helps in so many ways. My sisters and mom, have encouraged me and believed in my dreams, but especially my little sister Romy, she has helped me so much at pop-up events and designs, it honestly means everything to me. My support system has given me so much strength and courage to put myself out there and create. I am forever grateful for their love.
