We had the good fortune of connecting with Grant Setnicka and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grant, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I was fortunate to have some great mentors. I was taught very early in my career that ‘The only risk in business is not taking one. Training and showing horses is definitely not a conventional way to make a living so those words always pushed me to take a chance when starting my business

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I train and show cutting horses. My career with horses started in Rodeo and developed into a real business. What’s unique about my journey is none of my other family is into horses. I grew up on the west coast surfing, skateboarding and sports. I didn’t grow up on a ranch- I grew up in a subdivision with parents that worked full time. My family instilled a work ethic that I still lean on today. I always felt like a had limited talent but I had the choice to try and out work my competition. The path I chose wasn’t the easiest but I believe it was the correct path. Building everything from the ground up gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment that only comes slowly. As I continue on my journey I’ve learned to appreciate what I do have and not obsess over what I don’t. I am living proof that anyone can do anything through honesty, hard work and integrity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a cowboy we would definitely have to go to the Fort Worth Stockyards. That seems to get the ‘western’ fix out of the way. Countless shops and barbecue. Frescos Mexican restaurant in Burleson in my favorite Mexican food. You can never go wrong going to lake PK or Wacosurf for a summertime water fix. The DFW area has something for anyone for all walks of life

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family- parents Tim and Lu. My brother Jake and his wife Keri. Ted Robinson, Corey Cushing, Jason Hershberger, Doug Williamson, Marshall Chesrown, Jack Kitt and the countless incredible clients that believed in me enough to send me their horse.
