We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Mitchell-jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
January 2020, I attended Lackawanna College as a freshman to receive my baking & pastry degree. I knew it was important to get the educational background needed to be successful.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my business May 2020. We were in the middle of a global pandemic and it was tough finding a job. So I created one. And it’s been a long journey. It wasn’t easy, but I never gave up. Ever since, I’ve met so many people who loved to help me in my professional journey. It was a bit challenging to get my name out there but with the help of family and friends, I was able to get a couple of orders. Word of mouth means everything! I’m grateful for all opportunities. I want everyone to know that no matter the circumstances, if you have a dream, pursue it! It won’t be easy but life isn’t easy. Still we push through and make it to the finish line.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Washington DC. There are plenty of hotspots to explore. If they want educational, we can visit a number of Museums. My favorites are; Spy Museum, African American History and Culture Museum, Space Museum and Museum of the Bible. Places to eat would likely be on the wharf. The wharf is always my go to. They have Milk & Honey, La Vie, the Fish Market, or Hanks Oyster Bar. Lastly, DC night life. U St and Adam’s Morgan have many bars and nightclubs to pick from. DC is always a vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my mother! She has always supported me 100%. I love her dearly and I’m so grateful to have her.
