We had the good fortune of connecting with Glen Bhimani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Glen, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind our success are our employees. The quality of our employees allows us to provide the consistency and quality we are known for and that our clients are expecting to receive from BPS Security. When a security guard has made a major mistake that warranted our clients have begged us to keep the security guard on their site instead of termination and if we were able to provide additional training to ensure it does not happen again. Our clients in a sense start to become a team with BPS and with the security officer working at their site which is not common in the security industry.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets us apart from other security companies is the fact that we care, and we do what we say we are going to do. We got here today by doing what everyone said could not be done. We started with paying security guard $17 plus an hour and only selecting the best based on work ethic, personality match and client/employee personality matching to ensure the client gets along with the security guard. we give the client the option to choose from the 5 top candidates we screened for the client. The client has the last say who we hire based on the top 5 applicants we screened for them. It was not easy at first, we could not hire security guards, when we started asking applicants why they didn’t want to work for us, they stated they did not believe us that we were paying $17 an hour and that we were only tricking them so they would start working for us and attempting to trap them to work for us like other security companies did. at the time $17 an hour was unheard of in the security industry. Security companies are barely starting to pay that amount which we are now moving towards a $20 an hour pay rate to stay ahead of our competitors. We had current employees speak with applicants and reassure them that we are paying $17 plus an hour and tell them about their experience with BPS Security. as the word got out, we were actually paying $17 an hour more security guards started applying and we ended up with a waiting list. What i learned along the way is marketing and word of mouth is very important in gaining new long-term clients and employees regardless how good your service is and how great you treat your employees both clients and employees both want assurances.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take into account were my friend is comfortable and detail an Itinerary that would take him slightly outside his comfort zone to allow him to explore new areas unfamiliar for him. if cost were an issue, I would cover the cost for him so he can truly enjoy the activities. I would have a mixture of good and cheap food and really expensive five-star restaurants. I would avoid shady places that can get us in trouble. I would also pick activities that could expand their knowledge and skills such as clay sport shooting, Skeet, bowling, archery, racing vehicles and a private cabin with both our families to enjoy the outdoors with a private chef.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A very good friend of mine Omar Gonzalez was there with me in the beginning as a business owner. He told me he did not want to be in the security industry. however, he joined me as an owner to help me grow the business. after two years and many clients later, he separated to pursue his dream. he told me I am doing this to make your dream come true. we are still good friends to this day.
