We had the good fortune of connecting with Gin Blanton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The entertainment industry does not offer many opportunities for women of color and when an opportunity does arise, the talent thats competing for that one spot is fierce. I was tired of waiting for others to give me an opportunity, so I created my own.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ginger Snaps Productions is a female operated film production company that is producing a diverse catalog of feature films. Our first film was release in February of this year and we are on target to release three films in 2023. I am proud that I was able to secure distribution for our films on my own. That is an accomplishment for me because I thought I needed others to help me achieve this. The gate keepers often are unwilling to share information on how to do or achieve certain things and I encountered that on many occasions along my journey. When I finally realized that I had the power to make things happen myself, That’s when the door opened for me. Belief in yourself is Powerful.
Perseverance is what got me to where I am today. I literally will not give up. I may take a break or need to regroup at times, but I will not stop.
No, its not easy and thats what makes the victories so sweet! I overcome challenges by first identifying what the root cause of the challenge is and then finding a solution to the challenge. That may be redirecting my course, substituting with a better option, and most importantly staying focused on the task at hand.
I have learned not to take the ‘no’s’ personally. No just means Next Opportunity.
I want the world to know that GSP is committed to providing a diverse array of films and entertainment. We are committed to helping others achieve their goals and giving back to our communities.
I plan to help other young ladies realize that the only limitations we have are the ones we place on ourselves. And if we remove those limits our opportunities are boundless.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
