We had the good fortune of connecting with Geeked in the Garden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Geeked in the Garden, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?

What a great question! It takes a lot of willpower and motivation to keep going, and in some situations it takes a lot of strength, humility, and perspective to let go or move on from something.

For us it comes down to one question with our music…does anybody represent what we stand for? We individually sit with that question before we start on any project and the answer is always no. We bring such a unique perspective to music, and that alone keeps us going. I mean we take breaks in between projects to decompress and get new inspiration, but that question is our driving force to keep showing up and putting out music that represents our pov.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’re Amp and Starr of Geeked in the Garden. We were both solo artists and decided to join forces in 2012 and the rest is history. We can’t say what sets us apart from other artists because we don’t really focus on that, but what we can say is we make music for ourselves. If we love it we put it out and share it with the masses. We’re independent artists and we actually prefer it that way because we have full creative control over our sound and image, but being independent comes with its challenges. Being independent for us means wearing many hats so our primary focus can’t just be making the music. We also have to focus on all of the business too. The challenges are what make the reward more gratifying though. 2021 was a big year for us because in addition to having continued success with our music projects, we also ended Q4 with 5 sync placements! We have 4 songs featured in the new hit show COVENANT on the allblk streaming network, another song featured in an independent film called God of Dreams that is available now on Amazon Prime, and a song featured in a movie coming out later this year. The journey hasn’t been easy but it’s fun and so worth it! The feedback and opportunities we’ve been afforded simply because the music is dope is how we know we’re on the right track.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Starr: My mom passed away on January 30th of this year and I miss her so much. She is my greatest inspiration, so we’d like to dedicate this shoutout to her. We love you forever and always Big Starr.
