We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garrett, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The Texas music scene is oversaturated, and everything operates as a machine. It is easy to feel like you’ll never win if you stand on that machine’s assembly belt. I have set out to create my own machine and help artists perform more shows, as well as bring more entertainment events to a larger list of municipalities and organizations.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Having spent more than a decade in events and strategic planning, I am finally in a place where I can use my strength of strategy to run a business of my own. It has its challenges, but nothing great and memorable was done from within a comfort bubble. I want people to see the talent on my roster and discover how amazing these performers are. I also look forward to servicing people with our growing list of events.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Central Texas is the best place to host visitors. For a weekend, we have all the BBQ, Mexican food, burger joints, and lakeside restaurants you can visit, as well as lakes, rivers, and hills. We are two-to-three hours from DFW, San Antonio, and Houston, four hours from the coast, and six hours from the mountains. And of course, live music everywhere!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to the amazing and talented artists on the IndEnt roster: Charlie Cope, AJ Guel, Vanessa Lynn Bird, and Savannah Rae, as well as my own band.
