We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabe Dennis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabe, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson that my career in modeling has taught me is that everyone is not going to see your vision or support your dream. I had a lot of people that I considered close friends say that I was crazy to put all my energy into modeling and acting. I had to learn quickly that everyone is not going to be for you and that I couldn’t let others opinions deter me from what I want for myself. I believe that many dreams and goals that people had for themselves was put-on hold or did not come into fruition because they let the words of others discourage them from having the chance to fail or succeed. If I would have bought into their way of thinking I wouldn’t have been in vogue runways shows, published in magazines, done commercials, or even relocated to Dallas to even be doing this interview. Those reasons alone makes this the most important lesson I’ve learned thus far.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I decided to start taking my modeling and acting serious over a year ago. I got to the point where I wanted to do what I loved and enjoy it rather then doing what I hate and regretting it. What sets me apart from others is my determination, work ethic, and drive to always be the best. I always believe that if you can see it you can obtain it and I refuse to settle for anything less. Getting where I am today professionally was not easy. Modeling is all about how others perceive you, so starting out it was a lot of networking, open calls, no’s, and trial and error. The thing about this industry is that you can’t let that take your heart out of what you want. After receiving some no’s I was asked to participate in a vogue runway show and a televised commercial. At that point I learned that even though you might get a string of no’s it just take 1 yes that can change your path and be the break that you needed. Im just a humble guy from Charlotte, NC that is pursuing his dream. I have moved to Dallas to explore more opportunities and to network with some great individuals. Im excited about the connections that I have made so far and the things I have in the pipeline. I have worked hard building a strong following on Tiktok and Instagram that I am grateful for and would like that thank everyone for their support.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend visit we would definitely check out Breadwinners for brunch the food is amazing. We would go to Klyde warren park to relax and grab some food from the food trucks. Since he loves art I would take him to the Dallas Museum of Arts to view the exhibits and intake come culture. One of the nights we would head to American Airlines Center to catch a mavericks game hopefully they are playing the Hornets. Then for dinner we would head to RH (Restoration Hardware) Rooftop Restaurant for food and drinks. I haven’t been yet myself but I heard the rodeo in Fort Worth is worth seeing so maybe I would connivence him to check it out with me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother Christine. The love and support that she gives me fuels my drive to do more. She is always there to lend an ear and advise if I want it or not. I have to give her all of the credit for the man I am today. She always encouraged me to go for my dreams, to give everything I do 100 percent, to always be authentic to myself and make my own decisions, and to never look back and have regrets for anything. Just growing up and seeing her as a black single mother making sure that I had everything I needed and creating miracles to provided the things I wanted was nothing less than astonishing. The sacrifice and perseverance that I witnessed was instilled in me at a young age and I am happy to say that I embody those traits today. To her she might think that she played a small role in my development but to me she was the developer. Love you mom!
