Meet G Two Hwang | Rapper & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with G Two Hwang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi G Two, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up, I felt very hollow inside most of my childhood. Although my family shared a lot of love, it was very dysfunctional. As an immigrant family trying to make ends meet, I think the anxiety definitely trickled down to me and my sister. To have an outlet or an escape where I can narrow in on the present helped me build confidence. I don’t think I grew up receiving a lot of positive affirmations or even compliments. Imitating the arts helped me mask the reality I felt and fed me hopes that one day I can escape the loneliness.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m very proud to be a Korean American from Texas. Not only that, I was fortunate enough to grow up with a lot of loving friends who have made an impact to my life and my art. I think that allowed me to be vulnerable and apply it as a gift to connect with people. I think at the end of the day, everybody wants to be heard and understood. It took me a long time to comprehend my emotions and really learn how to properly voice my emotions. My friends and colleagues whom i consider family at this point, kept me grounded over the years and helped me steer in the right direction. It’s all about time and timing, and in order for those to align, you have to be consistent. It’s a forever kind of thing. I have an album/project that I’m releasing with one of my oldest friend and mentor/producer, UGP (who was the gateway to music at an early age in Dallas), and this won’t be the first or the last, and our whole mantra has been “let’s keep going”. Having shared a bond so special makes it more than just music and I finally feel I translated my emotions how I want to.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I took up golfing recently and Dallas is the mecca for golfers. I consider Dallas to have one of the best Korean food nationwide. So golf and Korean food is a must. I shot a music video few years back in Downtown at a bar/lounge called “Ladylove Lounge & Sound”, they have records on display with a nice intimate ambience with great music and even better speakers. Besides that, I spend a lot of time with my childhood friends and their kids now, so our weekends look a lot different than it used to. Get the grill going, clear the beer in the fridge and watch some sports. Oh and there’s “Winstar” about a hour drive, so that’s fun too. lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out yall! Shoutout DFW.
I think the hardest part of this journey is being sure. There’s never a right or wrong answer and there’s almost no instant gratification other than the satisfaction of your art. Sometimes your goals can get muddied when the results don’t match the passion of your craft with the real world expectations, but every now and then, there are small wins and recognitions that reassures the path that I’m on.
Whether it be an interview that took interest in my story, or a new friend that I had just met during a trip to Dallas to visit my dad, and happen to be a director fresh from Peru, willing to shoot my music video for free. So, shoutout “Shoutout DFW” and my homie Diego!
