We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Felicia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

The thought process of me starting my business came while I was working for a company that was very toxic. I saw how difficult it was for women in Corporate America to use their voices in an environment full of  dominating men.  I wanted to help those women that were smart, empowering yet afraid to speak up for themselves personally or on company issues that needed to be resolved.

I founded LeadHer In Heels to help entrepreneurs and corporate professional women understand their Leadership Identity and use their unique voices to connect with clients, team members and most importantly develop themselves. How can a Leader lead if they have not worked on themselves?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My most proud business/project is my Misfit Mogul Travel Bags. When allowed I can let my mind be so creative and come up with some of the most beautiful designs for my travel bags. At first, my thought was every Leader In Heels needs a travel bag and I came up with 5 original designs to market with LeadHer In Heels. The Little Girl Leader, The Corporate Girl, The Sophisticated Lady, The Executive Chic, and The Savage make up the original 5 Leadership Bags. People started loving the concept and wanted more designs. That’s when I came up with Misfit Moguls.

According to the Urban Dictionary!!! Misfit is basically, an unique individual. In the social classes of today, a misfit doesn’t fit into any one quite right, not even the outcasts, but may have qualities of each one. Misfits tend to follow their own beliefs, and are usually persecuted for it. Misfits tend to have few good friends, and are usually intelligent and mature. Misfits tend not to care about not having a social life, but some do.

Mogul is a very powerful and influential person in a business/industry. Power derived from experience and skill, not popularity (most celebrities while called moguls are in fact not). Look in the dictionary Under Misfit Mogul you will find me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is totally awesome because I really believe that Dallas, Texas has a lot of totally cool places that are off in the cut and some beautiful treasures that you must find. First thing first, we are definitely going from the plane to grabbing something to eat in the Trinity Groves area. There are so many delicious places to eat there. I am a total selfie junkie and love taking pictures so we will scroll down to the bridge and  take snapshots of the skyline of Dallas and post on all social media outlets. There is bound to be some kind of concert going on and it’s usually popping off at Lava Cantina. They have the coolest live bands, great drinks and I absolutely love the music. Then we will hit one of the rooftops with pools downtown Dallas and one of my favorites is The Joule on Main Street. It has the best service and the pool is absolutely amazing. I guess I won’t be selfish and allow her to pick a few places of her own but wherever we go we are bound to have an amazing time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have three people that continue to support, mentor and encourage me along the way. That is Trishauna Johnson, James Dennis and Lauren Scott. The journey to entrepreneurship is not an easy one but with supporters like them make it so much more worthwhile. There are too many to name but there are many others that play a part in making LeadHer In Heels a success and what it is today.
