We had the good fortune of connecting with Ethan Holtsclaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ethan, why did you pursue a creative career?
It’s always been an interest of mine! From a young age, I was surrounded by music/music videos because of my parents either watching them on the TV or my father playing gigs with his band. It only grew into something I realized could be feasible with some great friends, mentors, and my parents.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I do concert photography! I absolutely love capturing the emotions and energy artists create on stage. It’s always such a nice feeling being in the front and turning around only to see thousands of people feeling all the same way towards the music.

I must say that I’m the proudest of the photos I captured during the Rex Orange County concert back in 2020! They’ll always hold a special place in my heart because of the amazing performance, and the outstanding uplifting emotions in the room.

I thought it would be all easy. Just point a camera and shoot the main act! Wrong! Prior to this, I did not have a lot of photography experience, so I was jumping off the deep end real freaking fast. Thankfully, I learned a lot because of my amazing technical director at my local church.

I”d really like people to know that I wasn’t perfect at this at first, but having the right connections and having an open mind leads you down roads you never thought of before!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Man. So much do to and not enough time! For eating, I would absolutely take them to Easy Sliders, Angry Dog, Deep Sushi, and Emporium Pies in Deep Ellum. I absolutely love visiting the Perot museum. It’s one of the coolest places in my mind. I’d also love to show them the Bishop Arts District. There are so many shops there that I just love to absolutely love to browse around in. Though we’d definitely have to take a trip to Vagabond Vintage.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s absolutely a bunch of people I’d love to give my thanks to. My parents helped me along this path and figure everything out logically. All the technical directors I’ve had the pleasure of working with at my local church and even my technical theatre teachers in highschool.
