We had the good fortune of connecting with Esther Frederick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Esther, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Kindness. I truly, wholeheartedly, believe treating people with kindness makes a difference in this world. By treating others how you want to be treated and practicing it in every area of your life, it just makes the world a little brighter. Never underestimate small acts of kindness because it can stay with someone and mean more to them then you may ever know. Even if people try to take advantage of your kind heart, don’t let the actions and attitudes of others change who you are and what you know to be right. Though it still astonishes me, it’s become pretty commonplace to see rude or mean behavior, so I’d like to turn that around and astonish people with kindness instead.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a fine art film photographer of portraits, elopements, and weddings based in Dallas/Fort Worth and Seattle. My work has been described as elegant, magical, and luminous. I approach each session with intentionality and a vision and excitement fills me every time I pick up my camera. I’m very detail oriented and fashion is a passion of mine so I love to help style clients for their session. It’s a priority to help people feel comfortable in front of my camera and I feel the testament to that is I’m often told my work looks peaceful and has a candid quality. I’m where I am today in my craft by always learning and growing and refining my art, process, and the experience I provide. It’s taken a lot of patience and diligence to put in the hours even when you don’t feel creatively inspired or when you look at where you are to where you want to be. You have to decide not to let that chasm scare you and do your ultimate best with the skills, knowledge, and resources you have at the moment. I know how disheartening it can be to lose an amazing lead when you see all of your friends booking incredible jobs, but a mindset I try to keep, is that someone else’s success does not take away from your own. Trust that what is meant for you will come your way. Have patience and be kind and conduct your business with integrity.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank all of my past and present clients for trusting me to capture their portraits and memories. I am beyond thankful for their support and faith in me and my business and it absolutely makes my day whenever they send me a picture of their photos displayed in their home! I’d also like to thank all of the crazy talented vendors I have the pleasure to work with. Photographing weddings and shoots is already such fun, but it makes it even better when you have the chance to create with friends.
