We had the good fortune of connecting with Esmeralda Elizondo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Esmeralda, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I would say the most important lesson my business has taught me, has been that patience is key. Not everything is going to go as planned, there will definitely be bumps in the road and you may think that nothing is moving or happening but it is! Everything happens when it is supposed to happen. You have to be patient so everything can happen the way it is supposed to.

What should our readers know about your business?
I would say what sets us apart from others is we are a young Latina based salon who are wanting to make a change in the hair industry. Our stylist age range from as young as 19 to 23 years old. We try our best to stay educated and updated on any new trends or looks that are coming out. What I am most proud of is the work ethic of all of our stylist as they strive to perfect their craft and grow their clientele, with that being said we will hopefully this year be hosting educational classes and hosting pop shops this year to help connect and network with other professional/ business people in the area. It has been a wild rollercoaster to get to where I am today. I started as an apprentice, took as many classes and talked to as many hair professionals as I could to learn the craft. After 5 short months I went from an apprenticeship to renting a small suite and hiring my first apprentice of my own to expanding to the biggest room the suites had. That we turned into a group of 4 of us working in the space. I knew it was time to finally expand. I would drive by this building every day to work and always thought how beautiful it would be as a salon because of the great parking and the huge windows. And one day as I drove by, there was a huge “for lease” sign. I called to inquire about the space and right away we signed our lease! Everything seemed to be perfect at first but of course like everything we had bumps in the road. Construction was a mess, but patience was everything. Everything takes time and I am a huge perfectionist so to say I had anxiety was to say the least. But like I said everything takes time and everything happens when it is supposed to. I want the world to know that anything is possible and if you need a sign to start your business or jump into a new career, this is your sign. Do it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Someone I would like to thank is my parents. Without my parents this whole project and dream would not be a reality. Their advice and support is what made it possible. I also want to thank my stylists at the salon, who believed in this dream along with me and stuck by me as we transitioned from a small suite to a 2,000 sq ft salon. As well as I want to thank my clients! My clients are the reason we were able to expand and the reason we do all of this for!
