Meet Erica Murphy | Interior Decorator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, what matters most to you?
What matters most to me in my personal life, as well as my business is to “embrace the pace of your journey”. When starting a business it can be overwhelming at times and can be a challenge to stay patient as things evolve organically. When I was first starting out, I had to remind myself that I cannot compare my ten minutes of experience to someone’s ten years of experience. Especially in our fast-paced, social media culture, it can be easy to lose focus on your own journey while watching everyone else appear to be succeeding. We all have a unique path and journey, the best thing to do is to embrace the pace of your own journey — no matter what stage in life and/or business you’re in. I’m learning to be patient, what’s for you will come to you in the right way at the right moment. Great things take time!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My name is Erica, certified Interior Decorator, and Owner of Erica L. Murphy Interiors, LLC, specializing in Virtual Interior Design and Consulting Services. Offering custom mood boards, e-designs, concepts, curated shopping lists and custom how-to guides for those who are looking for an interior decorator’s recommendations and expertise. I am most excited about my new expansion of services which includes In-home interior decorating services, including, full service interior decorating and room styling. My business started with an idea, I love to be creative and my passion is interior design and decor, I wanted to have a way to get my ideas out there and create a business that is unique and authentic to who I am as a creative. The challenges were staying true to the standards and boundaries of my business. A lot of times when we are first starting out, we want to take on every project and say “yes” to every potential client. But, what I have learned is that not every open door is your door and you have to use discernment to know what makes sense for your business and the direction you are trying to go. I want the world to know that this moment is a full-circle moment for me. I love to tell my story of how I was studying Architecture and Interior Design in college and was rejected from completing the program. That deterred me from my dream of being an Interior Designer and Decorator, for years. My original dream faded and I never took the leap of faith, until now. My passion has never left, my love for design has never left, it’s all in divine timing. My passion to help people and my passion for design are the reasons why I created Erica L. Murphy Interiors, it is my belief that everything comes around full circle — we are living life by design.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends and I love live music, game nights, cocktails and art! If you like Live Music, I would recommend Sunday Funday at Lava Cantina in the Colony, featuring live music, cocktails and a buffet. My friends and I love a game night and we had so much fun at Urban Trivia which is hosted at Legacy Hall in Plano. As a creative, I love art. Recently, I visited the Black Girl Art Show that travels through some of the most popular cities in the country. The art gallery and black-owned vendors from t-shirts, naturally made skin care products, and of course art! Next up, we’ll be attending the Margarita festival hosted near the Toyota Music Factory that will feature the participating restaurants’ speciality cocktails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shout out to every person that has supported me on this journey so far. I appreciate each and every one of you, more than you know! I am grateful for the encouragement, support, understanding, likes, shares, resources, and knowledge you’ve shared. My supporters have mentioned my name in rooms that I have not walked in. I appreciate those of you who I don’t know personally, but are always supportive by liking and sharing my posts. Shout out to the creatives I have worked with from photographers, to influencers, to tendered interior designers in this industry. I am forever grateful for all of you!
