We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Lecross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2018, after many years in the beauty industry and careful planning, I finally launched my curly-centered business. Growing up with curly hair, I recognized the need for a salon that truly caters to all textures, from loose curls to tight coils. My journey in the beauty industry allowed me to explore various services, but when I focused on curls, everything changed for me.

Curls became a medium through which I could genuinely help people. My goal has always been to empower others and boost their confidence, and opening this salon has given me the platform to do just that. Launching my brand has brought me immense fulfillment, combining my passion for my craft with my desire to make a meaningful impact.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am incredibly proud of what my brand has accomplished. The journey has been challenging and often difficult, but I am deeply grateful for the growth it has brought me. Through this experience, I have learned so much about myself, and I believe it has shaped me into the person I am today.

My business fulfills my goal of helping others, whether that’s directly assisting guests with their hair challenges or equipping my team with skills they can carry forward in their careers. Seeing people feel empowered—whether it’s a guest regaining confidence after a negative salon experience or a stylist gaining the ability to provide for their family—is the most rewarding part of my work. These moments remind me why I chose this path.

There have been times when I felt overwhelmed and considered stepping away, but reflection has shown me the profound positive impact my business has on others. I’m proud to create a space where people feel seen, valued, and cared for. I’m also honored to help stylists build their confidence and expand their skillsets, enabling them to thrive in their careers.

Throughout this journey, I’ve learned to embrace life’s highs and lows. Instead of dwelling on setbacks, I focus on the lessons they offer. I’ve discovered the importance of celebrating successes, no matter how small, and using them as motivation to continue growing. Every “loss” is an opportunity to learn, and every triumph reinforces my commitment to being the best version of myself while uplifting others.

I want the world to know that my story is one of resilience, passion, and purpose. My brand is built on a foundation of empathy, education, and empowerment, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me as I continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting from out of town, I would plan an itinerary that blends shopping, dining, history, and stunning skyline views. We’d start by exploring vibrant areas perfect for people-watching and soaking in the local atmosphere. A must-see would be a Dallas Mavericks game at Victory Park or a Dallas Cowboys game in Arlington to experience the energy of local sports.

For dining, I’d take them to SER and Dakota’s steakhouses for a taste of Dallas’ culinary excellence. To capture our breathtaking skyline, a visit to the Reunion Tower observation deck would be essential. Another day would include stops at the Dallas Farmers Market, Bishop Arts District, and Klyde Warren Park, followed by an evening at the Meyerson Symphony Center.

No trip would be complete without visits to the Dallas Arboretum, Trinity Groves, Greenville Avenue, The Star in Frisco, West Plano, Downtown Plano, Deep Ellum, and the Winspear Opera House. Each destination offers a unique blend of culture, entertainment, and charm, ensuring an unforgettable experience. I’d aim to showcase the heart and soul of Dallas through its diverse attractions and lively spirit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe in the power of community and building relationships to achieve greater accomplishments. My top three shoutouts go to Innersense, the curl community, and my husband. Innersense is the hair care line my salon relies on to care for and create amazing experiences for our guests. I am deeply grateful for their support, which enables my team and me to deliver happy, memorable experiences and care for our salon in countless ways.

Next, I want to recognize the curl community, which includes industry professionals who are just as passionate about caring for curls as I am, as well as the guests we serve. Without their trust and shared commitment, my brand wouldn’t have reached its current success or achieved what it has. Their support inspires and drives me every day.

Finally, I give the biggest shoutout to my husband. He has supported me in more ways than I can count, constantly encouraging and motivating me to challenge myself. His unwavering belief in me has been a source of strength and inspiration, and I am forever grateful for his love and support.
