Meet Erica Hawkins | Event Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My end goal is to own a wedding venue and have a team help me manage my planning business side.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have wanted to be an event planner for as long as I can remember. I interned with a Planner in Fort Worth to make sure it was what I wanted to do. I knew it was for me but my journey was not easy. Of course my husband and I, like most lived pay check to pay check. It took me five years to be able to take my class and get my certificate to become an event planner. You do not necessarily need a certificate but I am the type of person that likes to know as much as I can before I move forward. I wanted to make sure there was nothing I was missing once I started. I am now a trained event planner that can take my clients dreams and turn them into a reality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a very laid back country girl. The lake and back yard BBQ’s with my family are my idea of a good time. My local coffee shop, MUG’s On The Square is my go to spot to relax and even work sometimes, The Tin Cup has the best brisket nachos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my number one supporter. He has told me from day one of starting my dream career to do whatever it takes. He works 60 hours a week and still helps me set up events, stays home with the kids when I have meetings, helps me when I run into problems, hugs me when I am stressed and lets me have my quiet time to work. I also want to thank The Boss Babe Society and Author, Cara Alwill. Both of them have kept me focused, ready to take on the world and fueled my brain with power.
