We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think a huge misconception is how much time is dedicated to each wedding as a photographer. Actually taking photos of the day is a huge part, but the real work starts when I get home. It takes me about 30-35 minutes to upload an average of 2500-4,000 photos I usually take during a normal wedding. Then, it takes me several weeks of editing sessions of at least 15 hours per week to get to the final photo delivery. So that’s why I tell people that wedding photographers are (most of the time) worth what they charge!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been developing my skills as a photographer since about 2008. I picked up my first camera and carried it with me on every single trip or to any big event I was involved in. I took on my first real couple in 2012, and from there I refined my skills as a portrait photographer. It hasn’t been easy, but I have learned what sets me apart. I love to portray genuine portraits of a couple’s love for one another. I love to show the candid warmth and connection between two people.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I would take them to several of my favorite coffee shops, LaLa land and George’s. Then I would take them to the Perot museum, because everyone should go at least once to light up their inner child. I would then take them to a rowdy night at Red River to go country dancing. My favorite places I would take them to eat are Velvet Taco and Yard Bird. For a fun afternoon of nature walking, I would take them to White Rock Lake and/or maybe hop over to the Arboretum to explore all the beautiful plants/flowers/and scenery they have there. To finish off the trip, we would make a stop at the House of Blues to catch an under the radar show and drive around downtown Dallas to view the beautiful night light scenery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Justin is an amazing supporter and has never failed to believe in me or my work. He is always encouraging me to be my best and to see my true worth. I love you!
