We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Stone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In the decision-making process of starting my own business, I thought a lot about freedoms that I really valued. I wanted the freedom to travel, the freedom to determine my own hours, the freedom to work on projects that really excited me, and the freedom to choose the businesses that I work with.

Growing up in an elite, athletic environment, I was not given a lot of freedom. While I loved my time as an athlete, I knew that I wanted to use my adult life as a time to enjoy everything the world had to offer, and I knew that I would not be able to do so behind a cubicle.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing I love about my career is that now I don’t see it as such. I see it as my hobby! But I did not always see it that way.

E Baine Media started in June of 2021 as a side hustle while I attended grad school, something that I am still doing today! As my business grew, I realized that this was an industry that I really needed to tap into. What was once a dream of working in social media marketing was now laying at my feet! And I jumped on it so quickly.

I will not lie, the job has presented both positives and negatives. I get to work from anywhere and I get to work with some amazing people! I love creating content and building brands through social media. I get to meet a lot of fun people and hear a lot of amazing stories. But the job does have its downfalls. Owning a business in an industry that is not understood by older generations has been difficult. I have had some clients not understand my business and its importance, leading to lost deals and frustrating interactions. While being your own boss sounds fun, it is very difficult, balancing work and life.

Throughout my journey of owning my business I have learned a lot. I have learned how to balance my work life and my personal life, I have learned how to set boundaries with others, and I have learned how to be in charge of myself. I have also learned the importance of surrounding yourself with a great support system!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have no choice but to answer this in a bulleted list! I have SO many and cannot narrow it down!

FOOD
·Angelas (Lovers and Inwood) — Has the best breakfast and is the perfect hangover cure!
·Mi Cocina (Highland Park Village) — You have to get a mambo taxi! But be careful, they’re dangerous.
·Park House (Highland Park Village) — A space that also doubles as my office space, Park House has a great menu and a great atmosphere for catching up with friends! If I ever go missing, this is the first place they’ll look!

DRINK
·Katy Trail Ice House — I have a black lab and we love coming here to catch up with friends and enjoy a drink!
· Atwater Alley — A speakeasy located near Knox Henderson, the bar tenders know exactly what to make you based on your favorite liquor!
·Trova Wine Mart — I love a good glass of wine and Trova has some of the best selections in the city!

ACTIVITIES
·Perot Museum — On Thursday nights, they offer Thursdays on Tap! Local food trucks and breweries offer food and beverages, and it’s a great place to gather with friends!
·Walk the Katy Trail — I love being active with my friends and we often start our weekends with a walk down the trail! It is also a great place to bring the dog!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Shoutout is dedicated to my fiancé, who never stops pushing me to continue in owning my business. When work is hard, when it isn’t fun… he is always there to keep pushing me.
