We had the good fortune of connecting with Emeka Obi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emeka, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to create a luxury clothing brand that emphasizes on modern and Texas attitire native to Dallas, and that could rival other fashion cities in the world. I got tired of hearing cities like New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Milan, and London always being in front of the headlines as the most fashionable cities. Being from Dallas I realized we don’t really have brands that we can say started here and that people from around the world know about. Austin Texas even has Tecovas and they are booming now. I am happy a fellow Texas brand is one of the best boot makers in the world. If they can be successful being from Austin, my brand to can be successful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My clothing brand is Rock and Roll mixed with Texas culture. What sets me apart from other fashion brands is that I like to have pieces that are innovative and new. I like to think outside the box when it comes to designing. I don’t like the norm and like to be different, then again I do have my basic pieces that everyone can wear. It isn’t easy running a brand but I never give up. I just keep designing coming out with new designs for my customers. I learned that you may not succeed over night it will take time to. I want the world to know that Dallas is a fashion city and has great designers that come from this city.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are many spots in Dallas that are fun to go to. For shopping I would take them to Northpark and because how iconic it is. I would definitely take them to Ross Perot Muesem, Reunion Tower, the eyeball and the Traveling Man. For outdoors I would take them to white rock lake, Klyde Park, Widowmaker Trail Rides. For eating I would definitely take them to Terry’s Black BBQ they have the best BBQ in town. For drinks I would take them to Three Nations Brewery and Deep Ellum Brewery. For the night out it will have to be Elm street, Virgin’s Hotel, Knox Henderson, Citizens, and of course Bottled Blondes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends are the true MVP’s of my success because they help support my business. I have to give my roommate Cordero Edward’s credit for even coming up with the other part of my brand’s name.
