Meet Elle Monus | Image Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elle Monus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elle, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
The little things. You know, driving with the windows down listening to good music, making silly faces with the kid in the check-out line and watching people forget to care what others think in moments of joy.
That’s what life is really about- creating moments where you can be fully present and enjoy something, no matter how small.
Money and success are nice. I’ve spent years working 80 hour weeks chasing them, but they never made me happy. Some days I really have to work to look for the birds and the trees- but if gratitude were easy, the world would be a different place and I would have been a different person years ago!

What should our readers know about your business?
I like to take that story of “normalcy” into my business. You’d be surprised how vulnerable and brave our clients at TRUE have to be. If we are styling you, you literally are stripped down to your basics. We won’t watch of course, unless you’re cool with it. But our humility and understanding in those moments are key.
We know what it’s like to be vulnerable, to have body issues, to have weird emotional attachments to a pair of jeans- and to cry on the floor of a department store because nothing fits and you just can’t seem to get out of this dress.
That’s what we address, kindly, as we also teach the fundamentals of how to tie that pretty little bow of style on top.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re looking for a fun and funky hotel (which I always am), The Lorenzo is the place to stay. Give me weird, give me art, give me downtown views. The Virgin Hotel is a favorite second and comes with its own funky vibe.
For dining, there’s got to be a mix! Dakota’s is my favorite for steaks and martinis, Alice Dallas if you’re looking for instagrammable decor, and Angry Dog if you want the best burger of your life in a dive. Can’t get into those? Anything Chef Blythe Beck cooks up is worth making a trip for.
If we are drinking, and we are always down for a drink, Anything Joel Morales does is perfectly low-key but quality. His newest addition- The Peak Inn is the moody neighborhood bar where you won’t meet a stranger and Adairs has been a Deep Ellum staple for- probably ever. It doesn’t hurt that you can swing by The Free Man for more incredible music and food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Let’s face it- I’ve been a community project. It took a village to raise me, a community to get me through college and on my feet, a whole lot of emotional support from family and friends when life knocked me down, and even the empowerment that came from peers and clients in my community. It would take all day to name names, but know that every person in my life has taught me something that has gotten me where I am and I am truly humbled by it.
