We had the good fortune of connecting with Eliyon Brackeen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eliyon, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
All I’ve ever wanted to be is an artist. Music was always around in the house. Hearing the way my mother and Father talked about artist’s, Art, Freedom, and the power of culture ignited my creative spirit early on. Bob Marley, James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, and Jimi Hendrix might aswell had been biblical characters in my home. Art was always something that my parents and I could agree upon.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The hardest thing Ive dealt with is getting out of my own way. I feel like right now there are more oppurtunities and tools to be used to help any creative achieve their goals than any other time in history. This is both a good and bad thing. But. Competition is the sign of a healthy marketplace. So the fact that there is so much competition in Poetry and Photography means that there is plenty of work to be had. When it comes to my Poetry I am a Poetic Storyteller who writes in verse. I don’t write or perform like most poets out. I utilize subtext and symbolism through out my pieces to try and force my listener or reader to stretch their imagination or vocabulary.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
