Meet Elijah Broughton | Director , Producer, Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elijah Broughton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elijah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always loved film as a kid but one day I was helping my grandma around the house and I found an old camera. She gifted me that camera and I have been making films from that day on.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well some years back during Covid I felt I was in a very low point in my life. I decided to do something for myself and go to Texas Frightmare weekend. I saw there was a filmmakers class. I attend the class hosted by Billy Pond. After that class I met someone who changed my life for the best , Sean Furey. He asked me if I wanted to make a movie and four years later we haven’t stopped. From all this it has taught me not to give up on your dreams and to push through. It’s not easy, there are times that I think I’m a failure and that I’m not good enough but then I look at my children and see them creating their art or living their dreams. That motivation keeps me going because who am I to give up on myself when I could never give up on them. I tell people all the time now go create art. Who cares what everyone else thinks. Your art is you and don’t let anyone even yourself hold you back.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start off by taking my friends to one of my favorite lunch spots Wabi house for a bowl of spicy miso and a large hot sake. After that I would take them over to the Angelika Film center for a movie! Then if we’d have time hit up a local comic book store.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d say my wife Anisa Broughton. If it weren’t for her I don’t think I would be where I am. She’s a talented photographer, artist, and cinematographer. She helps on films from behind the camera down to the poster design. I would also like to shout out to my brother in law WaVymason ( Mason Trunkhill) this creative individual is the master of music. Anytime I need some music for a film he’s always there to whip out some music that becomes its own character in the film! He also makes music for local artist and helps them get their music out to the people.
