We had the good fortune of connecting with Ed Philips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ed, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Working Hard, being patient with the progress, communicating well – especially with customers, staying consistent with the product I’m offering, attention to the presentation of my brand in every area, being personable and as agreeable as possible, being willing to invest both time and money into the business. Above all is doing all of this with integrity even when it may hurt!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began painting with oil paints when I was a child, and have always had a love for art. I continued to paint into my twenties, but a very busy life with children and business obligations made it so that time to paint became harder and harder to come by, As a result my painting was put on hold for over thirty years. A few years ago my youngest child left the nest. Life began to slow down, and I had time for artwork again. In 2019, after decades making a living in the business world, I decided to try to make a living with art/painting which is something I passionately enjoy. It has required taking risks and the growth of the business is slower than I would like but I have found great joy in this journey. Unfortunately many artists struggle with the business part of their art careers because of a lack of knowledge and experience. I spent 39 years successfully managing businesses and those experiences have proven to be invaluable for me in starting up my Art business. I am still facing the huge challenge of building the business big enough to be able to make a living at it but I am confident that it will one day be that big.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to downtown Fort Worth, to art museums there – especially the Kimbell Art Museum. While there I would take them to lunch at the Istanbul Grill for amazing Turkish food. There is another Istanbul Grill run by the same couple in south Arlington that we might go to for dinner one evening – it’s that good! I would also take them to the Fort Worth Stock Yards. It would be fun to take a stroll through the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens and enjoy the beautiful plant life there. My wife and 3rd born daughter also do a lot of entertaining and so we would enjoy hosting a meal at my house and inviting friends and family over for a fun time of fellowship and food and probably playing games too. We also enjoy Hakkaido Sushi, Cracker Barrel especially for breakfast one day, and Spring Creek Barbeque.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
