We had the good fortune of connecting with Earnestine Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Earnestine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I became a Registered Dietitian to make a change & create impact within my community. After working several jobs in the field, I came to the realization that majority companies (especially in healthcare) primary concern is money & patient count. I wanted to be able to make money of course, however, I wanted to know that my job was done & that I made an impact in everyone’s life that I encountered. I would literally hop from job to job because something was always “wrong” or “missing”. That’s when I noticed it was the fulfillment aspect. In addition to fulfillment, I enjoy my free time & I believe in a positive work-life balance. I knew that the only way to achieve all 3 of these elements, I had to start my own business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The mission of All Things Nutrition is to help others establish a healthy relationship with food while achieving desired outcomes. A lot of clients are on a weight loss journey, or in need of help with managing different conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. We also do grocery store tours & meal plans. I believe what sets us apart from others is my education, for one. I am licensed in the state & nationally, & I have my Masters of Science in Nutrition. This is not to bra, but to highlight the fact that I have spent years studying food, diseases, the human body, etc., down to the science, literally. Also, I have spent years on the “other side”. I know what it feels like to need help, but not know where to turn to. With that in mind, after being in an ideal client’s shoes, I know how to better serve my clients. I am excited for the recent rebranding that took place. We were previously Eatz By E Meal Prep, but once I became licensed, but once I became licensed, I became able to do nutrition counseling. Although I love food & cooking, my passion is with nutrition education, & teaching others how to live a healthy life without restrictions. I have gotten to this point in business simply by being patient, praying, & following the needs of my community. It has not been an easy journey. With COVID & the decision to rebrand, I felt like I started from the group up, & technically I did start over. I overcame these challenges by staying loyal to my vision & goal. I have learned that change is good. Business can change, but there is nothing like having your own & being your own boss. Passion has to drive your business. Keep the passion alive & the profits will follow. I want the world to know that nutrition is the answer to a lot of our problems from health, energy, skin, nails, etc. There is no one size fits all when it comes to dieting or eating “healthy”. The key to living a long, healthy life, inside & out, starts with that we put in our bodies.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love trying new places, but there are a few “must haves” in the city. I would go eat & drink at Fish N Tails for their crab legs, OMG Tacos, Hana Hibachi & Sushi, & anywhere that sells birrira tacos. I love going to the farmers market & tryin food places that do their pop up at the farmers market. Uptown, Trinity Groves, & The Harbor have very nice views with areas for you to sit, or get active. I am a Dallas native so I make it a goal to try new places to hang out. I love chill vibes with a great view, food, & music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a MAJOR shoutout to my husband, Derriyan Jackson. It has been a LONG journey to becoming a Registered Dietitian, but my husband has supported me & encouraged me along the way. He has always pushed me to go after what I really wanted & to never lose sight of my dreams & goals. All the business ideas, revamps, etc., he has encouraged. Of course along the way there has been a lot of changes in the business & different needs that were going unmet. Derriyan has done a lot of behind the scenes work to make sure these needs were met. I wouldn’t be able to successfully run All Things Nutrition without him.
