We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Stamas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dylan, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
If you want to do something you just have to start doing it. I feel like for so many years I had so many different ideas musically and so many different projects I wanted to start but for whatever reason couldn’t get things rolling or would have a slow start but the only person I had to blame was myself. It takes a lot to put your music or your art out there for the world to see and judge but at the end of the day that’s the only way people will ever get to enjoy it. The way I look at it is, there will always be millions of insanely talented artists in the world but the biggest difference between the ones who make it and the ones who don’t is their ability to just do it and share it with others and make yourself vulnerable like that no matter what you might be creating.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’d say I really break my professional time up in 3 ways, by trade I’m a Hair Stylist at Toni&Guy, I play drums writing and touring with my band Rosegarden Funeral Party and I write and produce beats for the Yo Cisco Kidd project. It’s so hard for me to pick one thing- I really just enjoy creating and working with my hands so I find myself filling up my time with those sort of activities and I am just beyond thankful I get to do it as means to make a living! I’d say some of the biggest things I’ve learned along the way is that you really can do what you want in life as long as you enjoy what you’re doing- that’s all that matters. I spent so many years stressing about what I felt like others expected from me or what I should be doing that things didn’t really start to fall into place for me until I was focusing on the things I wanted to do. I really believe that as long as you’re happy and enjoy doing whatever it is you do, you can’t fail.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas is such a unique city is the sense that not matter what you’re into or about, there is a scene or community to help support that interest! If you’re coming for live music first stop always has to be THREE LINKS Deep Ellum! They are the heart and soul of the live music scene in Dallas in my opinion, putting on the best shows in town no matter what genre of music you’re into there is a night of the week at Links that you can get your fix at. A few other great venues Id have to mention would be Double Wide and Charlies Star Lounge you’ll always have a great time with great people at any of these spots. If were going out to eat, a spot I think everyone has to check out is Pizza Lounge In Deep Ellum they have the best everything, honestly its the kind of place you want to start AND end the night! Any night out In Deep Ellum you will see and be with all walks of life and that really is the best part!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Id have to start with crediting my city for sure! Ive got so much love for Dallas and everyone in it and I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am now if it wasn’t for them! My homie Still Do was really the first to open up and bring me into the LoFi scene in DFW and after he introduced me to NxckLewxsBeats and CrownedMF, that was it. We were playing live and booking events almost weekly and I am truly thankful for how much we’ve all been able to accomplish together. I feel like have to also talk about HQ aka THREE LINKS Deep Ellum for being a beacon of light for live music during a time when every show is either getting canceled or shut down due to the pandemic. LINKS has kept the LIVE music scene thriving here in Dallas and has given not only myself but so many other amazing artists here in a place to perform and call home! I would also like to give a huge thank you to my partner in crime Rugido.does.art for creating the entire visual art for the Yo Cisco Kidd Project, she’s really been the only person working along side me from the start of this thing and its been magic to get to work with her!
