We had the good fortune of connecting with Dustin Gutkowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dustin, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Being a business owner, father and devoted husband is totally foreign from the life I knew growing up outside of Austin.  Not knowing my father, seeing a house filled with drugs and dealing with abuse all added up to a tough childhood.  I actually ended up homeless at fourteen.  We were very poor, but that made me work harder in life and now we have a successful business.   The family stuff was harder because I did not have those positive and loving behaviors modeled for me.  As it turned out, going through those things, made me want to be a good husband and father.  Being a father is the thing I am the proudest of in this world.  The desire to live a better life was there from early on and continues to drive me today.  I owe some of that to my experiences, good and bad.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are relational, not transactional.  That is our guiding principle and what we are all about at Results Roofing.  I wanted to start something to get people results.  It sounds simple, but so many businesses right now are focused on the wrong things.  It feels great to deliver results to our customers!  We are committed to that every day and in everything we do.  In all aspects of life, we work to improve ourselves getting results in the workplace, on the job site and in the community.  Building a business with that in mind is not easy.  It means, no shortcuts.  We knew it would not be easy, but we stayed obsessed with making a difference and getting results and now everything else is falling into place. I am most proud of the reputation and culture we are building.  It will be a legacy for not only my family but so many more around us.  Since we started fourteen months ago, we have grown to over 40 team members and contractors.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to see in our city, but at this point in my life most of our outings are family oriented.  Going to the zoo with the kids is something we do all the time. They love learning about the animals.  Dave n Busters is a place for the kids to be active but also a great place for some food and drinks.  Texas favorites like BBQ and tacos are a must with our visiting guests and we always make time for a little get away to the casinos nearby.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several people in my life that helped mentor me along the way. When I was younger, I studied everything about Kobe Bryant.  He was such an important figure in my life, we named my son Kobe after him.  His mentality and drive are what I try to emulate in my own life.  I knew it would take a strong mental makeup and work ethic to get me where I wanted to go.  Today, my wife deserves most of the credit.  My wife and our kids are everything to me.  I would not be where I am today without her.
