We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Brent Lockett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Lockett, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business because it was a better way of helping people restore their mobility and function in a much more efficient way. The healthcate industry is handcuffed by insurance companies and corporate Healthcare. As a result, profits have become more of a priority than patient care. Patients are not getting results because physical therapist are expected to see 15-20 patients a day in order to maximize profits from a revolving door of poor reimbursement. As a result, a clinician can only treat as dictated by what the reimbursement rate is versus what the patient needs. When I started my business, and removed insurance from the equation, I can now treat ANY patient using to my clinical skills versus being told how to by a insurance company. My patients get better faster, and cheaper with my practice, and are able to achieve their goals -that’s what it’s all about for me!
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is Optimal Physical Therapy & Pain Relief. My business is unique in a few ways. First, it’s a mobile outpatient physical therapy practice that comes to your home, gym or office. A lot of people are pressed for time as it is and don’t have time to make it to a therapy appointment. I eliminate that problem with my practice. I can come to your work or after. Second, what really sets me apart from other practices are my evidenced based treatment techniques and training. My treatments consist of dry needling, cupping, spinal manipulations, blood flow restriction therapy, etc. As a result, these techniques help my clients get out of pain fast so we can begin to strengthen later. My clients on average are better in 4-6 visits versus going to a traditional therapy clinic where the average visits are 15-18. My goal is to heal, not just get you “well enough”.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d start the day at one of my favorite breakfast spots in Addison- Benedicts. My next “go-to” place would b the Dallas Aquarium. I love anything with nature. After that, grab a drink at a local bar close to the American Airlines arena right before attending a Mavs game. I’m a die hard basketball fan. I love the game!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The American Academy of Manipulative Therapy is what I am currently studying to become a sub specialist osteopractor. The program has changed my clinical skills and outcomes so much, its a night and day difference. This program is the reason I’m here.
