We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. April Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. April, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As an independent thinker, I worked diligently to become a business owner. I believe it runs in my blood as my parents always discussed the importance of working for oneself. My mother Barbara Sykes was a self taught artist and seamstress. My father, Bernard Henderson worked as an independent cleaning services while working as a manger for transportation company. Through out life, goals must be set in place to ensure consistent growth and to realize the vision for the future.

Over 2 years, I completed my PhD in Biblical Counseling. I am now able to reach more individuals with my certification, training along with my experience as a Pastor for over 10 years. As a self published author of several books, this affords the opportunity to empower others on life’s journey.

I set in place a 5 year plan as to become a financial center manager. I achieved this goal within 4 years. I learned the skills and experience through out my banking career. The next journey would be either an area manager or financial advisor. I chose the later to become a financial advisor with a bonus of becoming a business owner.

Now, I am a brand inside of a corporate brand. Gratefully, I have the flexibility to advise my clients spiritually, business wise and financially. An unlimited amount of gross revenue, creating independent wealth and leaving a legacy to leave to my family, was the ultimate deciding factors to become a full time business owner. In addition, I am able to create job opportunities for others and build strong partnerships within the community..

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an Author, “My Joy Is Power” and “My Joy Travels The World,” I have the opportunity to impact positively to my readers. I hold book signings throughout the year in various locations.

As a Christian Counselor, my success is the ability to adapt prior to pandemic to assist my global clients virtually.. This allows me to engage with more clients effectively and in a timely manner.

As a Business Strategist, I assist with formation, website and branding of the business. Additionally, I use all of my experiences to elevate my business clients exposure in the community.

As a Licensed Independent Insurance Agent, I am able to protect individual and business income, lifestyle and leave a legacy for their families.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places in Florida, The waterfront downtown Tampa is by far my favorite place. Additionally, the areas surrounding Clearwater is another area filled with delightful attractions. I even held a book signing in Clearwater beach in 2021.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Samuel Johnson is a dedicated, loyal, and consistent supporter. His complete trust energizes me to accomplish my dreams, visions and aspirations. My three men of valor with are my sons Jarron, Jaylen and Mark are my why. They are the wind beneath my wings that give me my drive to succeed along with being an example of what’s possible.

My God mothers Leoza Brown and Faye Horton have been a constant push. Bethel COGIC Lakewood, NJ, Calvary Baptist Church, Dover DE and the United American Freewill Baptist Church, Lakeland FL catapulted me into ministry. Their constant development is catalyst to my Ministerial and Pastoral success.
