We had the good fortune of connecting with Donnetria Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donnetria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always think of providing what people want, need and something in my lane that will make it easier for me to navigate and market.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a licensed all natural nail technician. Specializing in signature pedicures and all natural/organic services. Providing my clients with the ultimate pampering is very important to me. So I started my own mobile spa service (AYS Mobile Spa bar) which allows me to customize my services to their needs. Pushing past everyone who said they didn’t believe in my dream was the hardest. To overcome the financial aspects like the fact that there’s a nail shop on each block. I had to separate myself and what I offered. Since being all natural is my lifestyle that was easy As I educate my clients on the products I use, the benefits of them and why I am using them. I have learned to keep pushing forward stay focused and trust the process. I would like the world to know what I offer and that I enjoy what I do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Dallas there is so much to see. I would start with turkey dam in uptown for brunch. Then maybe hero’s or greedy’s for some live music or to catch a game or two. I like poetry as well so checking on black canvas events are always options for a lit, positive vibe type atmosphere. Nature walks are my favorite mid week. Getting some well needed fresh air and stretching away our stresses are always good ways to get out and stay healthy. Topping our week off with a gno spa party from my business will end the trip with a great relaxing mood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I admire other women of color in this industry who push forward daily against all the odds. We are a minority in this industry but constantly growing and making history. And Bonnie Reed who paved the way for me to be here and has taught me to keep it pushing. Metra D Sha who is always uplifting and teaching our youth.
