We had the good fortune of connecting with Diondra Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diondra, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is consulting God before anything and keeping my core values in the forefront. In a world where you can easily be distracted, I choose not to conform to what is around me or what others are doing. I stay true to who I am and what is set out for me.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart is I am unapologetically me! I don’t ask for permission to be me I just be. I’m true to myself and I let who I am shine through my work of poetry. How I got to where I am today was by challenging myself, sticking by what I love to do and taking a break when necessary. Also, when I feel like I need a push I will enroll myself into a writing class to allow my brain to be picked and write about a topic I normally wouldn’t write about. I had the pleasure of being taught by some very well-known poets such as Rudy Fransico and Javon Johnson that has helped me grow. Putting the time in definitely didn’t come easy but I’m more intentional with my time and what I want to write about now that I’m loving the process of being a writer and poet more than I have ever before. I want the world to know they are going to be seeing, hearing and reading more of me. I have so much on the inside I’m just waiting for the perfect time to be poured out.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to go boxing with me at Western Boxing Gym Ave, Painting with a Twist, Oklahoma Contemporary Arts, The Collective or Goro Ramen to eat and I love going to Ice Event Center on Saturdays for “Verses” where we listen to live music and vibe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes!! If I named everyone, I would have a book so to keep it short and simple my family, close friends, and my poetry friends that I have met along the way and challenged me as a writer. I love and appreciate all of them so much! They have played a huge part in my life and I’m forever thankful!
