We had the good fortune of connecting with Dijon Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dijon, how do you think about risk?
I have recently begun to understand the importance of taking risks and it has changed my thought process for the better. I have now started my journey of self-improvement and also started to improve in business overall. I now have a better understanding of taking risks, and by associating risk with my fear of failure, I can now start to improve in all areas I lack personally and in business. For me, I struggled with the fear of failure and that has been one of the largest components hindering my growth both personally and professionally by missing out on vital life lessons. Now I understand that failure is only just a perception, and in order to grow, you have to fail. Experience is the best teacher and the lessons that come with “failure” cannot be taught, it has to be learned by doing. Taking risks now has forced me to think more, to come up with more complex solutions instead of temporary solutions, and unlearn the methods I have been taught or thought I already knew. The cliché saying “no risk, no reward” has a deeper meaning to it now. I now move at a different frequency because I know there is a lesson in every failure, I now can focus more on the lesson versus the outcome or the results, I understand it’s more about the journey now, and learning what is necessary during the journey, not the end result. Taking risks builds my steadfastness in faith and conditions me while I get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I currently have two businesses that I run, I have my transportation business and my marketing business. Ry Transportation Services is the business that I dedicate to my firstborn daughter, Ry is one of the many nicknames that I call her, hence the name. I am most proud of being able to create something that my daughter will ultimately be able to see the fruits of my labor at some point whether directly or indirectly. I am also proud of myself for starting, I personally am an overthinker so I get stuck in the analysis paralysis stages often, so committing and becoming a legal business entity is definitely a highlight. I currently have not achieved my peak of where I want to be in business as of yet, nothing worth having is easy. I now feel like I can conquer more by focusing on eliminating the fear of failure and focusing more on the celebrations of success. I am constantly overcoming the challenges but feel more confident now accepting them on this journey instead of shying away from them, I have learned a few lessons along the way, but the most valuable lesson learned is to embrace the journey, I was missing the lessons and the resources or keys I needed by taking shortcuts or detours instead of running the marathon. I want the world to know that my story is just starting, I am not finished yet, it is a new beginning and I have a renewed mind because of God and I will not be the old me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel it is only right that I dedicate my success to God first. He is responsible for anything that looks like success and is the sole reason I am blessed and have what I have. All my wisdom and gifts and talents are because of him. All glory to God for every person who has played a part in my life and in my success, my credit and praise is to him. They wouldn’t have played a role in my success without him.
