We had the good fortune of connecting with Dezmond Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dezmond, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Life gets hard. Following your dreams gets hard. Achieving something great gets hard. Sometimes it gets so hard to where you want to throw in the towel. I’ve learned and seen time and time again, if it’s in your heart push through and watch you achieve whatever it is you set out for yourself. Dreams and goals have to have some form of adversity or else nobody would truly appreciate them. When I feel like giving up, I take a step back and look at how far I came. I then see I’ve come to far to just throw it all away. Then little confirmations here and there come as I continue to pursue.

People who give up are the ones that couldn’t endure the fight. The ones that win are the ones that did endure and never let up. When there is a will there is a way. In this age you truly can achieve any and everything if you apply yourself and never give up. The only time you should give up, is if your heart no longer loves what it is you do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Soul and R&B singer/songwriter from Fort Worth, TX. Harmonies and lyrics are my thing. Having been raised in church and involved in some school choirs, it all laid out the foundation of my sound. Lyricism and songwriting came from writing at a very early age to express how I felt. NeYo was a huge inspiration in my songwriting.

I am super proud of collaborating with some really dope artist on the path to my EP release next year. There will be singles set to be released this year leading into it along with some creative visuals that I hope will spark conversation and excitement! On the path to my EP “SSB” I got to work with Yung Bake and Ashton Edminster on a couple of features that have released this year. I am currently collaborating with amazing producers and artist such CordZone, SPCMN, ThaniaBear, and JackHymel! Everything coming has me so stoked! Just wait on it. SSB 2022!

This journey to where in am today has definitely been challenging but so worth it. I was always around and involved with music but never knew how to take it where I saw it could go. It was people God put in my life like Natasha Carrizosa, who put me on my first show. Then that led to me meeting my best friend/business partner Adrian Peace who put me on game recording and business wise. That led me to building a great team around me from People’s Revolt to the Greenhouse Family. If weren’t for people who genuinely believed in me and helping me go further, I wouldn’t be here today.

You have to surround yourself with good people. The best way to do that, is to be true to yourself by following your heart and being unapologetically you. You must also ask for what you want or express what you need. You will never get anywhere with a closed mouth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to L&L Hawaiian restaurant for some good Hawaiian food. I’d also take them to a spot called Robinson BBQ in Fort Worth! Go to Top Golf and Andretti’s for some fun. Kung Fu Tea for some boba. Visit the DMA and also a sports game like the Rangers at their new ball park. The last place I would take them is the Star in Frisco to have a full on funday eating and drinking good!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my team REBELLIOUSOCIETY, People’s Revolt, COSIGN Mag, Chris Collins, Larry Gee, Tyler Dozier, Natty Amanuel, Solomon2Wise, Boggus, SPCMN, Valley of the Kings Studios, Xavi P, and all my family and supporters. Without them this year and all of the good things happening with my music career would not be possible.
