Meet DEUCEFROZE | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with DEUCEFROZE and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DEUCEFROZE, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Before I reveal what I want my legacy to be I want to explain my understanding of what “legacy” is. My hypothesis is, if legacy is what you leave behind, then legacy is the leg that carries you when you’re not around. The thing that speaks for you when you are no longer here. A personal “ambassador” if you will, which happens to be one of the definitions of the root word of legacy. So with this understanding of legacy I want mine to be the knowledge and wisdom that I share. Not to imply that I am the most knowledgeable or wise person in regards to any topic, but I enjoy the opportunity of being able to provide something that you can’t find anywhere else. And if knowledge and wisdom is a good thing why wouldn’t I want to pour into others what God has poured into me. I want that to reflect through my music, through my writing, through anything that I create. Creating helps me discover the deeper meanings in Life. So, when you experience my art I want you to be able to abstract the deeper meaning of Life. One of my favorite Bible verses, Proverbs 20:5, says, ” The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out”. I want to be known for being understanding and drawing the deep waters not only out of self, but the water in everyone else.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We live in an age where being able to wear a lot of hats is necessary. Especially in creative industries. No cap (Pun intended). And it’s difficult but definitely not impossible to make a living solely off of art. Buy when people see how you create and understand your style and understand that you are conceptualizing things that haven’t been brought into existence before. Artists are like filters. We make people see things in the way that we do. If your filter is impactful, companies will pay you to make something for them through you. The filter. And everyone is an artist whether you believe it or not. Some embrace it and others don’t. No one thinks the exact same way or come to certain conclusions the exact same way. We realize our work and help others come to realizations about the world and themselves. Like how some people say things in a way that we didn’t think of. Now you have the words to express that thing you couldn’t put in words. That person may not have known how impactful their words were for you. That project you’ve been holding on to or song you haven’t released because you think it’s too personal might be the thing that speaks the language they didn’t know could exist.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say the best spot to slide for food If you’re in the Dallas area is most definitely Cris and John. Absolutely bussin. Vietnamese Street food. Every time I go I am beyond satisfied. There’s usually a long line but man it’s definitely worth the wait. My favorite thing on the menu is the phodilla. Yes phodilla. A quesadilla with pho noodles in it, with your choice of protein. It is provocatively delicious. I don’t get out of the house too often so that’s the only recommendation I can provide right now lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to take this opportunity to thank my mom. Her birthday is coming up soon. So I want to acknowledge how much of a blessing she is to me. She not only gave me life but continues to with the guidance and wisdom that she provides. She has been the epitome of a mother. They need to put her picture in the dictionary next to the word “woman”. It would be a sin for me to say you could’ve done better. And for that, as your son I want to accomplish things beyond what you think is possible for me. I love you Mom. Thank you for all you have given me.
