We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Owning a small business can be challenging in many aspects, I believe one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned thus far is that you’re never done learning. There will always be new techniques and trends, trends you may not master on your first attempt and it’s very important to accept feedback from your customers. It may not always be what you would like to hear but instead of getting defensive or letting yourself become unmotivated it’s important to learn from those mistakes and practice everyday to offer your clients nothing less than the best.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I began Blooming Beauties it all started as a wild idea, it was built on that feeling you get when you receive flowers from a loved one on your birthday or that just because gesture. I have always loved receiving flowers and that’s when it came to me, instead of just receiving flowers I wanted to have the honor of making hundreds of faces smile by creating beautiful arrangements. At first it was very challenging, I didn’t have much of a portfolio or any at all, it was hard to find people willing to give me the opportunity and I wasn’t receiving many orders. But with success comes risk and that’s when I went for it, I invested in all the supplies and bulk orders of roses, I had to practice and show people what I was capable of. With lots of hard work and consistency not only hands on but on social media I began the exposure of my work. I learned that the best way to build a name for myself would be by promoting my work on social media. It only takes one share. One share from a customer can help gain 10 new customers and that’s exactly how it happened. I am so thankful for every single person that has taken time out of their day to share their arrangements on social media after their purchase, sometimes it doesn’t seem like much but we don’t realize how much exposure helps a small business like mine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly believe Blooming Beauties wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for the support of my fiancé, Jordan has been not only supportive but he was that extra set of hands I needed. We work together as a team to make the magic happen, Working a full time job and owning a small business can be overwhelming but having a partner and family that support and help me makes it all possible. Whether it is getting a head start on cleaning roses to adding the last detail they are there through it all and for that I am beyond thankful.
