We had the good fortune of connecting with Destany Aguila and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destany, what principle do you value most?
Integrity.
Simply put, integrity is the fruit of a spiritually and mentally prosperous lifestyle. When your being is centered and whole, everything you undertake will be a product of that positioning so it can either come from a well watered garden so to speak, or a neglected one.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I remember back to the day I accompanied my best friend to her orientation at cosmetology school. The moment I had stepped foot behind the scenes I was enamored at the work of the students. I didn’t just see people cutting hair, I saw artists creating and I was all about it! It was a start to my journey that actually didn’t have a clear end. I just knew this was what I wanted to do. I just didn’t know to what degree and there were so many options. I’ve always been about “one step at a time” if we look at the bigger picture sometimes it gets overwhelming so it’s a faith walk, one step at a time and each step will reveal your next. So I started in cosmo, once I graduated I had clarity on the fact that I did NOT want to be a full blown hairstylist, not because I didn’t like it, I just didn’t have the desire to be in that specific avenue of hair, so I took a break and worked as a barista. Along the way I had guy friends who needed haircuts and since I had SOME training I was all for it. It was them I realized, ‘THIS is it!’ That’s what launched me into my job at a men’s salon that ultimately had me pursuing my barbers license. The rest is history!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Knowing me and the type of company I keep, we’re very spontaneous so the itinerary would be where ever the excitement of the mood leads us! I’m definitely a coffee drinker but always down to try new spots so it would be a hunt for a yummy new coffee spot to experience together. One of the spots I would intentionally visit would be RE: defined Coffee House if we were in that area.
I’m also very outdoorsy so a hike or nature walk is a must especially to get my energizer bunny of a daughter out and about. I like to visit new parks and areas with nice naturesy views to experience. If it were indoors, to feed the kid in us I would choose The Puttery, a fun place to enjoy food drinks and psychedelic putting themes!
Food is even more unpredictable because I’m cultured when it comes to different cuisines with different but all amazing tastes and experiences. We could be eating Thai one minute and in a completely different city for the dessert. Again wherever spontaneity leads us!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Biggest ups and glory to my Father God in heaven, my creator who developed me with the talent He instilled in me and the doors He opened in my life. Shoutouts to the many various individuals, (you know who you are) who have sewed knowledge, tips & tricks as well as their own skills & techniques with me starting from my educators to the first managers who have hired me and given me opportunity to hone my craft to the team workers and colleagues who have exchanged tips and supported, and I can’t forget the clients who have trusted me with their sacred hair enough to not screw it up! Strong relationships were built from it all!
