We had the good fortune of connecting with Destanie Franco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destanie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When starting my business, i had alot of insecurties and obsticales to overcome. I knew i had always wanted to be my own boss and have something that was sucessful that i created. I had just gotten married and had my first son and wanted to get back to working, but was so tired of working for other people and having to choose between work or being home with my family, so i chose both!
Photography had always been a passion of mine, but i didnt have the means and equipment to start doing photography professionally. one of my dearest friends had seen me taking on this passion and gifted me my first camera and from there it was more than just a hobby. I knew i wanted to make this into a career. Seeing peoples love, capturing babies first moments, other peoples successes and milestones, and the beauties of the world was just my calling.
I did have many tribulations as most business owners do, but i knew i couldnt let any of those things stop me from pursuing my dreams. I wanted to provide for my family, and show my children that you can quit literally make something out of just a thought and that is exactly what i did and do every day when creating art with images!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a visual creative artist is never easy, not everyone will see what you see, or will love the work you create. I have had to learn that many times throughout my 5 years of being a photographer. But, there are so many people who will love you work and trusrt your artistic abilites to create something beatutiful for them! I think no creative is alike, there is always somthing that sets you apart from all the others, with me i think that would be my outgoing personality, and my abliity to create friendships though my work! I have always loved being around people, and do kind of think of myself as a little bit of a people pleaser, because i love creating joy through my work for my clients. I love knowing people love to see my work and want to work with me. I am also very big on women empowerment and showing women their beauty though my eyes. I want them to see how gorgeous their insecurites actually are and love doing that though Boudior Photography. I think that is where i have the most Creative freedom and what really drives my passion for Photography. I want to create a safe place for people to come and be their most vunrable but feel the most powerful!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
West Texas is definently not one of the hotest tourest spots, but there is so many great places to visit! Big Bend and Marathon have to be one of my favorite places to visit in the area. There is a gorgeous garden in marthon called The Gage Gardens, that is stunning and perfect for photos and The Gage Hotel that has a delicous resturant, along with the Brick Vault brewery! Which has the Best green chili mac n cheese ever!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my husband, Darren and boys for supporting and putting up with all my spontaneous creative sessions and ideas! I also want to thank one of my closest friends Adriana for seeing my potential and pushing me to start my Photography business. I love you all!
