We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Ibañez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
At the end of the day- to this very point in time, you decided to keep going as many times as you wanted to give up. You chose to keep going every. time. you wanted to give up. There isn’t exactly a “knowing” on “when to give up” and really I couldn’t tell a soul to give up on chasing anything they’re after- I can only hope they look back at the many times they wanted to give up- but didn’t.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a mere representation of my thoughts. Her-oeuvre is a platform that best represents work I’ve done or collaborated on. Oeuvre meaning an artist’s body of work, her being me. Whether my art is seen or felt through videography, writing, photography, mixes, even drawings- it all best represents a part of me and my vulnerability. I mean without the art, I would still be me- I would just probably have a really really hard time expressing myself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to take them to this cute coffee shop called Mozart’s with the cutest lakeside view, Then if they feel like shopping or walking around I would take them to some places on Guadalupe st. I would then recommend going to Homeslice for some pretty good pizza. After that, we’d wing it because I haven’t explored much of Austin really.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my family, they’re definitely a motivating factor as to why I keep going- there’s just much more to the world that I want them to see and their support has only helped me go after it.

Someone I also hold very close is Alyssa Huynh. She is not only an incredible friend, she’s an unparalleled creative director with an eye to detail like no other. She’s shown me the real meaning of trusting oneself and prioritizing yourself in any manner. No one can live your life for you, it’s only right to make it as personal as possible.

There is also an amazing and welcoming Austin-based community known as Hubbledvision I am thankful for. Hubbledvision discovers new artists by showing their creative process through a unique scope and channel. I’ve truly met so many genuine and talented people within this community that I will forever hold close!
